Hi
I am playing Civ II Gold edition. I toggled the cheat mode, and captured all advances for some of my cities (just for fun!) and then tried to create a space ship. I create it with enough feul compartments, but when I hit F12 it says there is no fuel, no support and the probability for my space ship to reach to Alpha C. is 0%!! Why is it so? what am I donig wrong? I searched this site to find a little information about how to create space ships and support them, but i failed.
Please answer me

hi
Yes, I create jost one of each components. One feul, one propulsion, one structural unit, and on of each modules.
What is wrong now? Can you send me a game save (even a cheated simple one) that has a spaceship working?
Thanks

You need to have MANY structural units to have a viable spaceship.

Try this section from our War Academy:

http://www.civfanatics.com/civ2scrolls.shtml#Spaceship

IIRC, you will also need a minimum of 6 compenent units (3 fuel, 3 propulsion) for it to be a viable spaceship.

Here's a picture of a fully built Spaceship:

You can "get away with" a ship with only one of everything but Structural (you still need 15), but you do not get 100% probability of success. It will still arrive, as long as you do not lose your home capital, but the number of "victory points" you get is equal to the chance of success (79%=79 points), reflecting some loss of your 10,000 citizens embarked. This happens only for those ships with either 1 fuel and 1 propulsion or 2 fuel and 2 propulsion.

Basically, decide what number of Modules you want first (you need one of each LS and SP for each Hab), then how many fuel/prop pairs you want to go with it, then keep adding Structurals till the little star next to the number of Structurals on the Spaceship Summary screen disappears and the Launch button appears. Then you are ready. Common arrangements are listed in the War Academy Scrolls of Ancient Wisdom (near the bottom).

Does that mean the probability % is based on the number of colonists in your spaceship, NOT the max number possible?

After creating a spaceship in cheat mode, it appears that in the launch screen it tells you how many colonists are aboard the ship and the % of success. I.e., on my test, I only put 1 each of solar, life, and hab mods, 8 each of components and enough structuals to launch. It showed 10,000 colonists and a 96% sucess rate. Now, how does that translate into points for score? Given that 40,000 colonists at 100% equals 400 pts, is the above only 96 points??

Yes, it's based on the number of colonists on your spaceship.

After you build your spaceship, check the F9 screen and see how many points it shows as being possible for your spaceship. Multiply that point value by the percent chance of success to see how many points you will actually get when your spaceship arrives.

Just realized I have been playing civ for over a decade and I have never actually built and launched any kind of spaceship except the maximum size with 40,000 citizens!

Great!!! My problem was not to have enough structurals! I tried to build less than ten, and it didn't work! I needed more than 30! :D
Thanks a lot :)
