I DL'ed v106.1 tonight and played several turns. Built a Water Mill and a Library, but could not select the specialist slot in either building.

Do any error messages appear in the tuner when you click the specialist slot?

There is no error, because I can't even select the specialist to cause an error. When I hover over the specialist button to try and select it, it just shows the terrain description.

It works correctly for me, so there must be some difference between your computer and mine. Have you tried the things on the common checklist? In particular... are you using any other mods that alter the city view?

Ok Thal - I did all the usual (delete cache and moduserdata) and started a new game with only v106.1 enabled and end up with the same results as before.

Thal - I have the latest version of the MOD DL'ed v106.4 and I'm still having the same problem with this issue. Is there anything I can do to help solve this problem? I have never had any real issues with anything like this. I guess I will have to drop back down to v104 until this can be resolved. Thanks!

Cache - Deleted
Moduserdata - deleted
V106.4 - only Mod enabled

Did you try verifying the game files via Steam?

No I haven't done that yet. Would you mine explaining how I do this or point me to where I can learn how to accomplish this. Thanks.

edited: Never mind I figured it out. It said it found 3 corrupt files. I'm going to start a new game and try it now.

edited 2: same results as before - no change to city view. Can not select specialist, they can get activated by the city, I just can't select them.

Well, we just need to figure out what else could be different between your computer and mine. :)

  • English version of the game, or another language?
  • Are you using only CiVUP, or also using VEM?
  • Not sure what else to try...

List:
English version
Using Civup and VEM together unmodified the way you have it to be DL'ed.
I have the latest version on CivV and I verified it yesterday.

I'm going to try and re-DL it and have only it in the MOD folder. Don't know what else to try either.

edited: That did not work either. The problem I'm having did not start occurring until the version where the city view was changed.

I can confirm the identical experience now with 106.7b. The specialist icons are showing up just outside the left side of the city view info panel just like SgtCiv's image above. When the mouse is hovered over the empty icon, it only detects the underlying terrain, not the icon.

I'm not happy that this has been confirmed my someone other than myself, but at least I know I'm not going crazy now. I can also confirm that the problem is still there with the latest version of the Beta.

I'm stumped what else might cause this. Sneaks did this work on the city view, so I'll direct him to this thread. Maybe he can figure out what's going on. :)

Edit: I just thought of something else to try. Enable & disable the various options on the game options menu... perhaps something there triggers the problem?

That is just wildly odd. For some reason, some peoples games are aligning the building icon instance as a Left instead of Right. Given that specialist slots align based on the relative position of the building icon, we see the current insanity.

Also, the rest of the CityView looks different from mine on the Left hand, which I did not edit. Are you by any chance using the Small Interface option?

The left side looks different than mine, as well... that prompted the "using other mods?" question. I tried turning on/off the "automatically size interface" and "use smaller interface" options. On my computer, neither option produced the appearance of the first screenshot. What setting makes it look like that?

Did some testing -

1. removed all other mods except VEM 106.8b. Same problem.
2. then I changed the interface option from auto to small and viola! I got back the functional interface that your development system shows. I've got a 24 inch screen running 1920 x 1200. In auto, I now get that non-functioning interface.
3. When I was running VEM 104 I had the interface set on auto too and still had the functioning interface, so it appears to be the change to 106 (Sneaks more concise interface?) that is the cause.

I will try to find a solution, but it is going to be tricky, as it appears both interfaces are governed by the same Lua file

Ah, I was wondering why there were two files!

  • CityView.xml
  • CityView_small.xml
I'm guessing the second one is set up correctly, with a mistake in the first one?
