Problem with Vista

Hi all,

I recently bought a new PC with Vista installed to replace my older PC which was starting to fall apart. However I'm experiencing network problems on Vista, for example certain programs are unable to access internet, for example Live Messenger and Steam, even if I can fully access websites through the browser.

I got rid of Windows Firewall, Windows Defender, totally uninstalled Norton Internet Security, unchecked "Ipv6", etc to no avail.

Any ideas on how to fix this? If so any help is appreciated :)

Most problem I have with vista is usually all other programs are using internet options settings in control panel (proxy settting to be accurate). You can still access internet through firefox if you mess up these settings.

For broadband, your LAN may not be working properly. Normally if we hover on them, vista shows whether you're connecting to the local and/or internet.

BTW, I'm no expert. I have defender, norton and whatnot that you've uninstalled and never have problem using apps to connect to the internet. You may want to look the net settings for those apps.
