Hi everyone i see im not the only civ fan.. well i got one problem and i need some help because i would to get started with civ 4..Everytime i try installing civ 4 and it ask me to put the second disc in..an error message comes on and says "catastrophic failure" on it therefore it stops intstalling and i dont know what that means maybe i got a bad disk but who knows.. can anyone please help me:confused:

The "Catastrophic failure " message indicates a bad set of discs - this issue has cropped up a few times in the last few days - suspect there was a bad production run some where. Would need a return to supplier for disc exchange or refund.

Civ IV is a full blown 3D game and has significant hardware needs compared to past releases.

See

Note in particulr "Hardware T&L Support" ie a graphics card

If you post your dxdiag we can check it in detail for you re compatibility with the game before you return the discs

I am having the same problem as NOWA and just purchased the game today. i have already ran back to Circuit City to replace it and still encounter the same problem.

It's a feature transfer error
feature: DefualtFeature
component:
File:
Error: Catrastrophic faliure

It happens once you place disk two and clikc on OK.

Im am using a XPS gen 2 laptop with the 6800 Go Ultra with plenty of HD space and all other requirements are above recomended.

Thanks in advance for any help

I'm on copy number 3 with the same error. I bought it from best buy. I plan to return it every day for 40 days until i get to play this thing. I'm so pissed off I cant see straight.

Same problem here, I've already returned it once and I'm going back to Best Buy tonight for another try.

I think this time I'll take my laptop with me, and we'll go through the boxes until we either get one to install or management gives me a refund. If that doesnt work, I'll dispute the charges on my credit card and try again in a month; hopefully that will be long enough for the bad disks to be taken out of circulation.

ETA:
They were nice enough to let me plug in my laptop near their customer service desk. Copy #3 was also bad, copy #4 installed and ran properly.
