Problems that don't qualify as bugs

Here's a list of issues I have been encoutering during my first games of Civ4. Feel free to add yours (feel also free to answer mine :D)

I run Civ4 1.74 with BtS 3.02. I use the french version so some of the terms I use may not be the ones used in the english version. I'll try to be as precise as possible.

* First and foremost, I can't activate colonies. This one really looks like a bug but I haven't found it in any list of corrections to be made. When I open the city advisor screen the icon (a tight fist) for the colonies seems misplaced, superimposing the 'quit' function. I still can click on it and then it opens a window where my advisor propose to give independence to several cities overseas. I click the option OK and... nothing happens. No colonies possible, then.

* About the victory graph (where one can see the evolution of his civ comparing to others), after a few centuries when I can see my curb as the one of neighbours and all the civs I have met, those simply disappear and I can only see my own curb on the graph til the end of the game. I thought at first that some civic forbade me from seeing others' progression but I have changed civics several times and nothing comes. Any idea ?

* In the cities where there is more than one religion I cannot see the percentage each religion gets. I tried to [rollover] the symbols as told in the manual but it gets me nothing.

* Is there a way to check your total amount of espionage points, or the amount per civ ? It's annoying not to be able to know how much of these you have. Percentages just aren't workable.

* When I zoom out for the global view and I check the different religions or cultural influences I get some ugly colours melting on the map. For the religion there's only shades of gray laying the map. It's not very nice nor legible. I thought it was because I played in low-res but no, it's still the same in hi-res.

* In your diplomatic screen there is an option called 'overlook'. I can't sort any of it. I understand the + and - refer to the attitude of other leaders toward your civ but what about the colors ? Why are there also + and - ON the leaders icon ? What do those refer to ? Attitude of leaders toward themselves???

* A practical question : is there a way to add the minimap to the [ctrl-i] reduced interface ?

* Finally, all three french leaders have the industrious trait. This is total disregard to our natural laziness :D

Ok it's all I can think of for the moment. I'll certainly find some others later.

i think how that works is that you only know enough about them to have access to that information when you have enough espionage points vs. them. so if you've been spending points harassing them or something, you no longer meet that threshold?

also, dead civs don't seem to show up any more, but you said the only one you can see is yourself. i imagine you'd know if you were the only civ left *giggle*

"* In the cities where there is more than one religion I cannot see the percentage each religion gets. I tried to [rollover] the symbols as told in the manual but it gets me nothing."

i don't think there is such a thing as percentage of religion per city. the religious advisor show you how much "influence" each religion has as a total world-wide, but i think that's just based on how many cities have it, probably how big those cities are is weighted in.

"* Is there a way to check your total amount of espionage points, or the amount per civ ? It's annoying not to be able to know how much of these you have. Percentages just aren't workable."

yes! when you hover over their names in the scoreboard, it shows "amount they have/amount you have", at least in the US version. also, on the espionage advisor screen (ctrl-e), above the slider where you can adjust the weight for each civ, the total points you have for him are there.

i like to watch the scoreboard listing of how many points they have on me, and write it down along with the turn number every once in a while. then when something suspicious happens, i check to see who has fewer points than they should ... sneaky guys!

"* In your diplomatic screen there is an option called 'overlook'. I can't sort any of it. I understand the + and - refer to the attitude of other leaders toward your civ but what about the colors ? for me it's called "Glance". the + is a mystery to me, so i don't use it. the colors are the "attitude" one leader has towards another as a category, what the numbers translate to. furious/annoyed/cautious/pleased/friendly, i'm sure you've seen those terms. in my version, the colors for those are, in that same order: red / purple-magenta-ish / white / blue / green. if you hover over the number, it will tell you the individual parts that add up to that total (like +3 wise civics, -2 heathen religion) and also the "attitude" category. so if the colors in your version are different, hovering over it in a game where every color appears will let you figure out which represents which :).

one of the changes listed for the patch that's supposed to be released soon is "Removed ugly glance tab from Foreign Advisor". i really hope that means they "improved" it not "removed" it completely, i like it even tho it can be confusing.

welcome to CFC :)

In your F4 screen on the first page, you can see them by mousing over their pic. Actually any time you mouse over his (name-pic-etc) where it tells his attitude towards you, you should see a figure as xxx/xxx for espionage. First number is HIS points against you, the other number is your points against him.

In the F4 screen, by clicking on an AI pic to see his relations, you can see his espionage figures for all the AI as well, so you can keep track of what the AI is doing to each other.

You have to have a certain number of espionage points with a civ before you can see their demographics and graphs. It isn't very much, and the exact amount can be checked in the espionage panel.

There is no percentage of each religion in a city. A religion is either present or it isn't, nothing in between.

All this information is given in the espionage panel (click the little button with the EP symbol in the top right of the screen).
