problems under win95, help please

I have been able to install and run Civ3 with no problem on machines with Win98 but I can't get it to work under 95.

When I run the install program I get an error "error installing ikernal.exe (0x1200)". However it is possible to OK on this error and continue through the installation, but once I do this, if I try to start the game I get the logo, some CD activity, and then it exits back to the desktop. I've tried the no-cd crack because it seems that others were able to fix similar problems with it but in my case it didn't help. I'm wondering does anyone know a fix? Or possibly know what that error message means?

O thought Civ3 required Win98 or later to run...

According to the box and CD it will run under Win 95/98/ME/XP.

how fast is this win95 machine? since win98 was released at the same time as the pentium 2, and all the oem's immeadiately switched to win98, it's very difficult to find pentium 2-and-up class machines running windows 95, unless is was installed by hand. civ3 requires at least a pentium2 300mhz with 32megs of ram to run properly, along with directx 8.

fflewddur, that's not the issue I run Civ3 on a Pentium 166 with 256 meg ram.
