Just this weekend, a good friend of mine got a high speed internet connection and we began playing Civ 3 MP. The probelm is that I am a monarch/regent level player and he can not do much on anything above chieften. Thus we play on chieften.

I have giving him all tech I get and we just went into the second age. He has maybe 8 cities (standard map) and I have 18 (soon to be 21-22). A wide gap is growing between us and I am not wanting to surpasss him so much that the game looses its fun.

Any tips on how to handle friendly MP games when you have much more expierance than the other guy. I enjoy playing MP with him, but do not want it to loose its flavor.

Well, for one thing you can play "at ease", but you shouldn't deliberately play worse than you normally do.

The overall solution would be to play the game as eternal allies. Then you could play at your standard difficulty and try to help him when he's in trouble and try to win together.

But it's actually his concern. If he doesn't like to be the underdog in a game then it's end of story and you shouldn't play together. You can't play at a difficulty that is (far) too easy for one of you, cos playing against each other is no option. At least not a fun one.
