problems with advanced starts

hi everybody!

i have problems with advanced starts in bts. "building automatically" is the only possibility. but i don't like the ai´s way, so how do i build cities and improvements by myself?

i cannot even build the first cíty! i activated the symbol for the city,
i pressed left and/or right button, but nothing happend.

anybody out there to help me?
