All,
I'm having a very odd (and, so far, unresolved) problem to whit . . . I've recently attempted to upgrade my graphics card from a Sapphire Radeon x700 (AGP) to a Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro (also AGP and with both molex connectors run from separate cables from the PSU) but have found that I experience a total failure to load either Civ4 or Warlords (both with the latest patches) beyond the splash screen/opening video with the newer card.
The problem manifests itself as a complete breakup of the picture and a freezing of the screen making it impossible to do anything other than hard boot the machine to rectify the problem.
My system spec is:
This setup is quite capable of running the game with the X700 card (recently I've been majoring on a large scenario in Warlords using v3.0 of Ghengis Kai's Giant Earth Map mod) - it's just a bit slower than I'd like it to be hence the proposed "upgrade" to the X1950 Pro.
I've tried a number of different things to alleviate and/or identify the problem:
Does anyone have any thought on what might be the problem?
Cheers
Dave
I'm having a very odd (and, so far, unresolved) problem to whit . . . The problem manifests itself as a complete breakup of the picture and a freezing of the screen making it impossible to do anything other than hard boot the machine to rectify the problem.
My system spec is:
- Windows XP Pro with SP2 and latest fixes (inc .NET 1, 2, and 3)
- Supermicro X5DA8 motherboard
- Twin 3.2GHz Xeon CPUs
- 3GB RAM
- Corsair HX620 PSU
- Dell 2405FPW monitor @ 1920x1200
- Latest ATI Catalyst 7.1 drivers
This setup is quite capable of running the game with the X700 card (recently I've been majoring on a large scenario in Warlords using v3.0 of Ghengis Kai's Giant Earth Map mod) - it's just a bit slower than I'd like it to be hence the proposed "upgrade" to the X1950 Pro.
I've tried a number of different things to alleviate and/or identify the problem:
- rolling back the ATI drivers to an earlier version (the last I tried we're the Aug 06 drivers that came with the X1950 but I've also tried several other versions directly off the ATI web site)
- downsizing the game resolution from 1920x1200 to 1680x1050 and even lower)
- taking the DVI KVM switch box out of the loop
- playing other equally graphics intensive games including various versions of Total War and Auran's Trainz
- running a two hour video RAM burn in test - without errors - to see if the X1950 is faulty
Does anyone have any thought on what might be the problem?
Cheers
Dave
