Hi, I have question concerning the GOTM, maybe someone can help me out. Problem is I can't start it. I downloaded the savegame, try to load it and I get an error message that the file is protected to insure that the assetts in my mod folder haven't been modified. I didn't even install a mod, yet. What is the problem? Thanks for help

Have you patched to Version 1.61? Have you editted any of the files in teh assets folder?

If so, then you might have some extra files in your assets directory. I suggest that you try a reinstall - uninstall it, then delete the install directory to get rid of any superfluous files then reinstall and repatch. Let me know if this doesn't fix the problem.

have you run the civscale program that comes with blue marble? if so you need to run it again and set the scales to default to be able to load gotm

I downloaded new WOTM and tried to run the game... but it crashed during loading after short communicate that this savegame is protected.

I have Civ IV 1.61 and Warlords 2.0 release version.
I have also few mods loaded into mods folder, but launched plain Warlords to take part in WOTM.
What is going on?

Are you using CivScale for the blue marble mod? Have you modified any of the assets in any way?

I'd suggest an uninstall, followed by deleting the installation folders to clean-up any left-over files. After that, reinstall, patch and try again.

I checked Assets folder and found where the problem was.
Strange, that not in Warlords, but vanilla Civ.
Anyway, thanks a lot.

Warlords shares some of the Vanilla Assets. (In other words, they only put files they changed in the warlords folders.) Otherwise it would be a new game rather than an expansion. ;)

My third city in GOTM 11 is on the ocean. I traded for Sailing, and my other two cities on another separate ocean body can produce Galleys. The third city cannot. It only allows me to produce Workboats. Does anyone have an answer for this? I can't see any differences between the cities. All cities are connected.

Is it on a lake instead of a sea?

I don't think so. I can see 12 water squares and when I scroll over them the ones in the middle say "ocean". I am not sure how big a lake needs to be before it is classified as a sea but this cove is ocean. It has one food and 2 commerce along the coast. Do you want to pm me on this.

I'll drop this here since this seems to be as good a place as any too ask:

I just got alphabet so I went to see what I can trade for when I get what you see above. this problem is exclusive to GOTM. none of my other games are showing the error.

I understand the "uninstall-reinstall" process but I'd really like to avoid that as I have my game the way I like it with mods right now:
Blue Marble
Sevopedia
domestic advisor
foreign advisor
techscreen
better ship scales - fleet
as I understand it, none of these change the game rules at all, simply help display information better or change graphics.

please help!

(also, I'm on mac if that helps. I can repost over there if you all think it would be more helpful to get help from mac folks.)

Here are the rules as i know it for what you can build in waterside cities:

1) If the lake has any kind of water resource in it, then you can build work boats. No resource and you cant build work boats.. size of lake dont matter for work boats.. could be 1 tile or 1000 tiles

2) If the lake is 10 tiles or more, then the water tiles only give 1 food, and you can build lighthouse

3) If the lake is 20 tiles or more, then you can build boats (other than workboats)

Not really sure. When playing with the GOTM save, it should prevent other mods being used, AFAIK (maybe blue marble only?) So its probably nothing to do with those mods. Try the tech support forum or Mac forum?
I've reproduced these problems and posted some details in the Mac forum. To reassure non-Mac players, it looks as if it's Mac-specific. The Mac version doesn't seem to handle disabling CustomAssets correctly when running a locked assets save like the GOTM start file.

I would like to play GOTM11 with the HOF mod but I can't seem to get it to work for me.

I've got the latest 1.61 Civ4 version and the latest HOF mod but when I launch the HOF game there is no interface (the info along the bottom of the screen ... I've tried the hide/show interface hot keys to no effect).

I can press Escape and get the "Exit to Desktop", "Retire", "Options", etc choices but when I choose "Options" I get nothing.

What should I do ... remove and reload the program and updates???

I removed Civ and deleted all the remaining Civ files I could find on my computer. Installed fresh/updated to 1.61 and added the latest HOF mod.

Still same problem. The game loads but there is no interface, no hot keys, no options. Don't have a problem running the non-HOF version.

Guess I'll have to stick with the non-HOF version. I sure would like to have the HOF Foreign Advisor screens. Thanks anyway, the only thing I know to do would be to reload Windows fresh, which I need to do anyway, but for right now that's too much trouble.

That sounds like what happens if a mod tries to load and fails catastrophically. You end up with no user interface. Where did you put the Hof Mod? Do you have anything installed in CustomAssets?

I doubt if a Windows reinstallation is needed to solve this problem, if Civ4 is running OK apart from this. There's a logging facility that you can enable in the CivilizationIV.ini file that will list Python errors during startup. Maybe that would give some clues?
