Hi everyone:

I'm new to Civ 3. I have sid meier's civ 3 classic, version 1.29f.

The problem is that i downloaded a couple of saved games for analysis, and when i try to load a sav file a window pop up saying something like "error art/units/militia/militia.ini"

o

"error art/units/spanish missionary/spanish missionary.ini"

What does it mean?

I have the latest pacth (i think) 1.29f, it is supposed no problems on loading any sav file. What i am doing wrong?

Thanks. Great game!

Hello and welcome :wavey:

My guess is you haven't installed the mods that are needed to add features to Civ3 version 1.29f to make it comparable with Play the World. There are five downloads you need to apply, or, if you wait a couple of days, one download that I'm in the middle of preparing. If you really can't wait then here's the list of files to install, but that isn't the end of it, as there are some swaps and mods you need to do after that as well:

GOTM 21 Full setup:
http://gotm.civfanatics.net/games/saves/gotm21_v129_full_setup.exe

GOTM22 Add-On Setup:
http://gotm.civfanatics.net/games/saves/gotm22_v129_add_on_setup.exe

GOTM23 Add-on Setup:
http://gotm.civfanatics.net/games/saves/gotm23_v129_add_on_setup.exe

GOTM24 Add-On Setup:
http://gotm.civfanatics.net/games/saves/gotm24_v129_add_on_setup.exe

GOTM 25 Add-On Setup:
http://gotm.civfanatics.net/games/saves/gotm25_v129_add_on_setup.exe

Download these, and install them in the
above order. The key point is to make sure that when the
installer asks where you want to install to, that you make sure that it
installs to the directory where you installed Civ to in the first place.

These dowloads install a pair of resource graphics files that work with the older GOTMs. These are no longer required for current games, or for standard games and will mess up your map display or even crash the game, so you need to swap them. There are instructions on how to do this in the readme files that come with the installers.

You should also put the latest version of the pediaicons.txt file into your /Text folder to replace the installed one. A copy is available here.

Please come back and ask here or via PM if you have any problems.

@Bastardo, are you trying to look at other player's submitted games to see how they do it? If so maybe you could try looking at them in CRpViewer? It will open all of the .sav files no matter which version of civ (if any) you have installed! (See the link to CRpSuite in my sig).

Thanks.

Right now i'm downloading the files. I have a question. The atari version of civ III
it's full? i mean it includes civ III, PTW an C3C? if tru, it's necessary to download the latest patch or not?

I hope to be able to load the sav files to learn from the Civ Masters

The majority of GOTM's top players submit PtW and C3C files, so using version 1.29 you will only be able to view a small selection.

If you have Conquests then it installs the PtW and C3C versions, and you can load all the existing recent PtW and C3C saves without adding any mods. The one exception will be the next Austria game, which needs a different text file to be added, but that's just a single small file, not a big deal.
