I downloaded the 1.22 patch today, and installed it. Next thing I know, Conquests won't start up again and I have to re-install the entire game to get it to start again. Why is this.

Depending on when you bought your version of Conquests, it may already be set for version 1.22. Once you reload the game, check under details for the version number.

But in the main menu, the version number still says 1.00 and in some mods that require 1.22, the text is all messed up.

Edit: i tried to download the patch gain, and now conquests won't start.

EDIT EDIT: i re-installed the game, and it's working now, but the patch is not installed.

You may need to post this in the Tech Support Forum. My main expertise is in Mac computers, although I am learning Windows, and use a Windows box for game editing and debugging. All of my copies of Civ3 were patched to 1.22 before purchase.

Uninstall the whole game, remove any registry entries. Install only the complete game. Bring it up and you will see in the lower left a version number. It should be 1.22, if it is you are done.

Text messed up = "Build Fort/Barricade" instead of "Play new world" button etc? in the main screen? If it does, I had same problem, still have similar (now with science menu where geeky advice giver gives wrong advice - like when I move mouse to Republic then he speaks about flying. And Archer (if unique unit replaces archer, I can't watch archers civiliopedia entery as game crashes (can view in game tho..).

Just unistalled, rebooted reinstalled game, to get replace "Build Barricade" order with "Play New World".

Most games will put some entries in the registry, if Windows, that are used by the application and they system. Often the uninstall tool does not remove them all, making a new install a problem.

There is a tool in Windows called Regedit that can be used to clean them up.

So what do i do?

And yes the text is messed up like that.
But also when i play Rhyes of Civilization, the date says Nov. and the arrows in the tech tree for the industrial age are all screwy.

I just un installed, rebooted my computer and reinstalled civlization 3 (entirely).

I would make two installs. 1) Complete 2) complete with Rhys. If the first worked, then the second should. If the first one still has problems, then no need to go to the second.

If you install clean and do not add the patch, it should come up with 1.22 in the lower left main menu.

Yeah, I unistalled all civilization 3 related things, manually removed folders (infrogames or something was left) then rebooted, reinstalled. It popped few messeges up about 'do I wish to replace something' I said yes and later just ran game.

I think it asked about civilopedia file, do I wish to replace that. If yes does not work, always can try no option :). Also like vmxa said before, for me after install, it showed 1.22 as a version. (I did not know that it was final version, before I started messing with patch)

Edit:

For patch check bottom left corner of screen, what number it shows?

Okay, so i:
1) uninstall all civlization things such as folders in the senarios file
2) reboot
3) re-install
4) say yes to all do i wish to replace somthing
5) Then re-install Rhys of Civlization

are the saved games and all old senarios still in the folders? are they re-installed with the game?

Uninstall via add/remove programs, if registry is correct, all files (besides those created by your use) should be removed. Reboot(to make sure all is removed), reinstall.

I did not have anything installed back then so I don't know about save games etc.

Also if you downloaded this game you should check its cd folder, sometimes patches are there. That assuming that you own original copy of files you dld.

Can i copy all my mods to a removable disk or separate file too?

Edit: i am re-installing the game now, after un-installing everything else
However, i didn't un-install the patch
