Prolonging the eras

I feel like I spend more time in the early eras and then the later eras go by so fast. Was playing around with the xml files and noticed this line under each era in CIV4EraInfos.xml:

<iTechCostModifier>0</iTechCostModifier>

So, if I increase that number for the later eras to values of 40 or 50 (assuming the number is a percentage) and disable time victory, that should make the eras last longer right? I play on Normal and don't want to switch to Epic or Marathon because it takes forever to build things..

EDIT: I've set the eras to:

Ancient: +0%
Classical: +0%
Medieval: +20%
Renaissance: +40%
Industrial: +50%
Modern: +60%
Future: +60%
