Apparantly it has been confirmed now, that there will be NO scenarios shipping with the game.

Here is the thread :

I guess we'll just have to tighten our balls ourselves, and make it happen ! Not that it bothers me too much. -Maybe they'll include some scens when they make the multiplayer expansion pack.

Ah well!

The CIV2 scenarios were crap anyway!

We can create our own!,
I hope they let us do THAT much!!!

I disagree. I think mod makers over time have developed really advanced means of tweaking the civ2 engine to their advantage, so that most Civ2 scens made today are of really high standards.

I fear now, with the absence of a scripting language with appropriate triggers and actions, that Civ3 scens will really be reduced to the "cookie-cutter" scenarios of Age of Empires and similar games. Scens that doesn't really allow the diversity and complexity of Civ2 scenarios, but are "cute" mini-versions of the original game. There was a lot of talk about this in the forums when this was discussed with the Firaxis people, and I can't believe they didn't listen to this, if the "mod community" really is close to their hearts. If Civ3 has severe limitations with regard to "scripting" or other areas of creation (like graphics), I fear many of the hardcore creators will stick with Civ2, and Civ3 won't get the full creative backup and feedback that is needed to develop scens of a decent quality.

Morten,
I'm a CtP2 modmaker myself (that why you've never seen me here before, CtP coverage isn't very good) and I can wholeheartedly agree with you, scenerios without scripting are hardly worth the effort. I for one don't plan on spending much time on Civ3 unless Firaxis changes its mind and adds a scripting language after all (someone else is paying for my copy so I will buy it, otherwise I probably wouldn't even have bought it). Until then, I'll stick with CtP2.
