The Problem
I declare war on a weaker civ, take some of their cities, and then, instead of offering to become my vassel, they beome the vassel of a civ that is stronger than me, even though that civ has not taken any of their cities. Well, this is not the main problem, though I do wonder just how realistic it is. But the main problem is that, as I am sure you all know, the stronger civ automatically declares war on me.
Possible Solution
Why not simply first give me the option to make peace with the stronger civ. They can take the vassel, but at the same time, offer me the option to prevent a war with them by accepting that the have made a vassel out of my opponant.
Why is this Important
This is important to me because I always play on diety, so there are always at least several civs much stronger than me, and when I am trying to expand I keep getting into horrible lopsided wars that never end with these stronger civs who vassal my opponants and who I never intended to fight in the first place. On the diety level, this all really becomes an overwhelming factor.
Another Possible Solution
Perhaps there are other, better ways to deal with this situation. One obvious being that the vassal could always offer themseves up to the civ which is defeating them first. I think this might be most realistic. Isn't this what unconditional surrender usually amounts to in a war anyway?
Does anyone have any other ideas?
Couldn't something like this be modded?
Does anyone know of any mods out there that adress this problem?
By the way, I always use dlls that include Bhruics (can't exacly recall the proper name) unofficial patch, which is supposed to change the way vassel states works in some way, but regardless, the above is what constantly happens to me again and again in every game I play. Of course, I always play on huge real world maps, with lots of civs, and diety. Perhaps this isn't quite as big of a problem on a smaller map and lower level.
Please Help!
p.s. I do of course realize that I can turn vassel states off when I start up a new game, but I do like the concept, I just don't quite like the way that it is implimented.
