Out of curiosity, the Steam achievement Magellan has this description:
Prove that the world is round by uncovering a connected loop of tiles around the circumference of the world.

I have long since earned that, but there is still an in-game notification for the first civ that proves the world is round. I'm not sure if the 'loop' is necessary. Loop indicates a constant string of unbroken tiles that meets back at its starting point. I had one game where my string of tiles simply hit the same "longitude" but did not actually meet and yet the game indicated that I had proven that the world was round.

Is this minor thing already known or did I stumble upon a bug of some sort?

Isn't each game tracking that on its own, for a bonus maybe? I'm pretty sure the steam achievement is separate from the ingame variable.

The tiles do not have to meet...as you noted, as long as you have made a circuit that hits the same longitude, that will suffice.

BTW, the game tracks this because it used to give a naval move bonus to the player who triggered it. (I think this was back in vanilla)
