I had PTO2 (Pacific Theater of Operations 2) a while back, and while the AI wasn't that great, it was a fairly enjoyable game. This game no longer works on today's PC's. I was wondering if anyone knew of a game similar to this.

PTO2 was a campaign of the pacific war during WWII. It had some great points - day by day movement which could be sped up, the ability to create and modify task forces, and many other features. There were flaws - the ability to build ships was great, however these ships could rarely be completed by war's end. Especially the capital ships. On the other hand, it was fairly realistic when having to await the completion of new planes when running low, thus limiting actual attack time and adding a strategic element. Also, the problem with dealing with Germany was not a factor. I could take army units from anywhere in the USA and move them into the PTO without worrying about protecting my east coast. The idea of supplies was good, however the dispersion of said supplies was tedious at best. Better would have been a way to set an automated supply system to a location.

Yes, KOEI made it. I wonder if PTO IV was made for the XBox, too. Anybody know?

Thanks.

It does seem odd, though. PTO2 was not necessarily a game that you'd want a joystick for. It is odd that they'd write it directly for the PS rather than for the PC and then porting it to the PS. It is also a game that you can sit around and do a million different things at one time on your PC, whereas you obviously cannot do that on a PS.

It's probably available for the PC in Japanese; just not translated and produced as an English game. Like the RoTK games. ;)

I had PTO2 (for both PC and SNES) and I have PTOIV for PS2.

PTOIV is not that good when compared to PTO2. For one they took away the land fighting element of the game and made it a navy only war. That alone was enough for me to shelve the game and not play it anymore. I wish they would come out with some sort of updated PTO game more along the lines of PTO2.
