What does it mean by "fractal" does it referr to the shape of the landmasses, or fractal geometry?

I think it's a bit of a misnomer. "Random" would be more accurate. Fractal math might be used in the map scripts somehow--I'm no expert--but the resulting maps just look random and unpredictible to me.

I rather like them, though I do tend to end up on a continent by myself a little more often than I'd like.

Ive never tried them- can you describe them?

The fractal maps will give you a more randomized shape to your continents

You might wind up with one large continent or several, and the shape of each continent will be more jagged with subcontinents and many lage inlets and bays.

In short the landmasses tend to be more realistic than the dull blobs tha pangea and custom continents will give you.

I'm also guessing that fractal geometry is used with map genarating script to achieve the unique look of each map

It means that it uses fractal math in the map generation script, exactly where I don't really know. It produces varied landmasses that are fairly random-shaped. I think it's better than what's now 'continents', where you usually get 2 pole-to-pole continents with few interesting features (and often poor water). The continents tend to be weirder than on pangea, though I think pangea with the first coast choice looks more realistic than fractal.
