Hi all,

Just a little question. I hope i have founded the right forum section.
i have just a little problem: quechua description says: +100 Vs Archers, but with left click +holding on target archer unit, the total strenght displayed for my quechua is only 2.20 instead 4.20. It happens also to you? Tnx:)

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I think that's because +100 against archers doesn't increase your quechuas (and other units too) strength against the archer, but it lowers the archers strength against your quechuas, which increases your quechas chances of destroying the archer.

But in any case, you should do pretty well against archers, and if they are behind city walls or/and on high terrain/forest, you might wanna bring a couple more quechuas just to be sure ;).

With the exception of the Combat promotion line, most combat modifiers are applied as penalties to the defender's strength, not bonuses to the attacker. So 2.2 would be correct for the Quecha since it has base 2 +10% from combat 1. The 100% will be removed from the archer's strength (there are articles on the forum which explain these mechanics in far more detail).

MrCynical hit it right on the head. But just to show it inumbers. Your Unit had combat I, having it 2.20. If you attach an unpromoted Archer in flat land(normal strength 3). The strength would be adjusted like this 3/(1 + 1) the second 1 being the 100%. So, the archer's strength would be 1.5 vs. you 2.2.

It gives you an 86% chance for scussess I think, where as a normal warrior would only have a 15% chance for success against the same archer. The odds change once you start putting the archer in a city, fortify him, or give him promotion, but as you can see that bonus is quite important at that point of the game.

Quechuas used to belong in plain vanilla CivIV to Incas with Aggressive trait. In Warlords and BTS, Huayna Capac is no longer Aggressive, but Industrious. Despite no longer belonging to an Aggressive leader, the Quechuas have still kept their Combat I bonus, not as part of the aggressive trait, but as part of a special UU trait.

The %100 against archers substracts from the defense bonuses the archer has, while the Combat I bonus adds to the total strength of the unit.

Check my article out for more odds with Cover and CityRaider I, II, and III promotions. Also, there is a great Combat Explained article in the strategy section, search for it in the forums. It explains anything you need about combat odds.
