I've played a dozen or so games of BtS now, and I wanted to compile a list of quests that I and others have come across.

Greed
You are tasked by your military leaders to seize control of that resource.

In my case, I was tasked to getting Horse from my neighbor. We were allies, even though he was far weaker than I was. I founded the holy city of our religion and spread it out to him. I was Holy Roman Empire, he was Sumeria.

After waging a bloody war which wiped him out completely, I got the message that I have completed my task, and I was rewarded with 4 Horse Archers with 0xp. The message that showed up was basically to the effect that as a pure power play, I backstabbed my ally. However, I could not see any negative penalties other empires might have had.

The Blessed Sea
You are tasked by your religious leaders to found cities on new landmasses. If you can build enough cities on new landmasses you will please the master, who will offer you a choice of rewards.

Basically, I had to capture or build cities on 10 different land masses. Size does not matter, from 1 plot islands to massive continents. Each landmass needs only 1 city. This quest is failed if one changes State Religions, cease to have State Religion, or reach Industrialism before this is completed.

I didn't finish since just got Assembly Lines.

Please share any quests and results if finished.

Crusade
You are asked by your religious leaders to capture and occupy the Holy City of your religion from the infidels. (yes, the people that founded it :mischief:)

This was actually my goal from the start of a war I made, and it popped up a few turns in. I snagged Delhi, the great and Holy city of Bhuddism, the religion of 6 of the 8 civs, and i was rewarded with...

NOTHING! I was informed that the mission was over and that the crusades have failed. No rewards, no glory, no nothing. (besides snagging the richest city in the world. :P)

I guess it was a bug, too bad I didn't remember to save it for proof.

My top calvery leaders want me to build 9 stables before the medival era.

I have just started this game on marathon, but i have 4 stables built.

Had a quest today to build a carrier battle fleet. Had to build 2 battleships, 4 destroyers, 3 carriers and 9 fighters. Extra reward option for also being the civ to build the manhattan project. Rewards were +5 commerce in all harbors, or all battleships, destroyers, carriers, fighters and jet fighters upgraded to combat I. The reward that came available if you built the manhattan project was a nuclear ban. No nukes for anyone.

I had one that if you build 7 triremes by the ren era you get a bonus. I cant remeber if there is only one or there was alist, but the bonus i got was +2 :commerce: from harbors.

Another was to build 7 libraries but i forgot the details.

I had to train 12 Knights before research of Rifling, and had as a reward the choice to either:

Spread my state religion

Give all my Knights a free promotion (Flanking 1 I think)

Get a free Great Prophet.

Had one asking me to build 9 coliseums before the modern age, after which I will be rewarded, and a further reward if I control the Statue of Zeus. I did both, and with the 3 choices of rewards, I chose a golden age.

Can't remember the name of the quest but I remember the objectives:

Build 7 Harbours and 4 Caravels before the industrial age.

The rewards are +1 GPT to Harbours, all naval units recieve Combat One, or All naval units recieve navigation 1.

I chose the harbour one, I was the dutch and wanted a massive commercial empire :p

Elite Swordsmen

You are tasked by your military leaders to train a sizeable force of Swordsmen.

In this case, I needed to build 8 Swordsmen before Middle Ages arrive or if a rival completes it first. An additional award option is if I am running Hereditary Rule at the time.

I already have Iron in this case, and I quickly researched Monarchy and switched to it. I completed this quest, and I was prompted by 2 choices.

1: "With such a large force of Swordsmen working together, additional training for these units can be achieved." Every Swordsmen is promoted to City Raider 1.

2: "Our monarch will establish an institution that will enable current and future troops to obtain additional training." All Melee unit are promoted to Drill 1.

I choose 2 since Drill on Melee isn't a common thing. Fear my Drill 1 Warriors!

EDIT: I just produced another Swordsmen after finishing the Quest, and that unit had Drill 1 as well, so it's obviously a permanent thing. Cool beans.

Note: the number of buildings required for quests such as classical literature and national sports league scale with map size.

Capture the Holy Mountain...

I forgot the details as this was a couple games ago...

apparently there's a holy mountain somewhere, (i was jewish btw) and I needed to find it and settle near it so it's within my borders...

also if I build enough religious buildings (temples and monasteries) the mountain location will be revealed (something about studying the scriptures)

turned out it was near one of the barbarian cities I recently invaded, i mean liberated.

reward was spread of religion... don't remember much more than that..

Sports Stadium (Not sure of name - doesn't display in quest log)

Quest: Build 9 (large map) colliseums.
Reward: Not sure (I failed the quest).

Forgot name of the quest.

Build 8 Musketmen. Reward = All your musketmen get 25% vs Gunpowder promotion.

how are you getting the quests -- are there certain conditions in the game needed? I am almost done with a very long game and not a single quest! I have had some random events though.

I have written this in a random events thread, and will just copy and paste the part it because I am lazy.

The Best Defense
I got the task to be the first to have seven Castles before Economics, Rifling or Railroads with an exrta award option if I have the Great Wall (I had it)
Reward options

1.) Better training: Free City Garrison I for all melee units

2.) Turn defensive advantage into political capital: +3 relations with all leaders

3.) Now that we are safe focus on learning about enemy plans : +25 espionage points from The Great Wall.

I think certain circumstances make certain quest more likely, like relations, tech advantage or your civ/leader.
When I got the defense quest I

-Had the Great Wall

-Was the first on my continent to have Engineering

-Was in a defensive war with civs. Pacal attacked me and Montezuma joined him some turns later.

-Was playing as the Byzantine Empire (Constantinople was famous for the Theodosian Wall and was said to be impregnable).

I got another version of the Greed mission which tasked me to capture a Viking city that had iron in its radius, my "top military commanders" mentioned something about me not having access to any iron hence why they proposed the quest. The reward was seven, unupgraded swordsman which made conquering Ragnar a hell of lot easier in 800 BC.

Sports Stadium (Not sure of name - doesn't display in quest log)

Quest: Build 9 (large map) colliseums.
Reward: Not sure (I failed the quest).

The name of this quest is National Sports League.

Are you sure about #1? City Garrison I to Melee units sounds very interesting, as they can't otherwise get it.

Requirement numbers are different in posts, so they must be different in other map sizes. I usually play on Huge and need to build 11 Castles, Libraries, Colosseums... So I think it's same as the normal number of civs on the map (Duel - 2, Tiny - 3, Small - 5, Standard - 7, Large - 9, Huge - 11). Could someone confirm this? I have no idea is the number of units in the quests different in different map sizes.

Yes, I saved before I completed the quest and tried it out. All my Macemen and Pikemen got a City Garrison I promotion. Then I whipped a new Pikeman and he had the promotion too.
It only gives Garrison I and does not allow you to promote melee units to Garrison II & III

Although the greed mission specifically tasks you with capturing the city whose culture contains the resource, all that is required is to get the resource under your cultural borders one way or another.

I have complete this quest by capturing the indicated city and also by using a spy to influence my culture in the city, pushing the resource into my own borders.
