The last version I played was I think V. 27 or 28. Unfortunately the AI wouldn't attack me outside of the ocean and coast. Lot's of naval action, but out of an entire game on snail from ancient to far future era, only one instance of the AI using land units to attack amphibiously, and that was like two units. I've played other smaller games where the AI never attacked outside of naval units.

Has this been addressed? Should I only play pangea maps? Because I usually only play with several continents.

Also I think I was playing on emperor (maybe immortal), but the leading AI was finished researching a tech every one turn, even in the late game. The only way I was able to catch up was to use espionage to steal techs constantly (with civ trait not reveal spy nationality). Is this normal? Also the AI's had populations like 80-150 size cities (probably even more), which is why I wasn't surprised that they finished a tech every one turn.

Yeh, the AI has a very definite weakness with an inability to stage effective attacks between landmasses. So long as you have large continents that should be fine - once you fully conquer one it provides a fairly safe haven, but you still have to work to conquer the others yourself.

Is this intentional? The thing is, I only play with three settings: Diplomatic, Conquest, Domination. I only go for diplomatic or conquest victory though. So if I'm playing with say 7-9 continents, and I end up alone (or eliminate one civ sharing it with me) on a continent, then that means I can't lose the game. Not only because I'm not being attacked but because the AI is not conquering others.

It's a great mod, maybe the greatest ever, but imo this is a huge weakness to the gameplay. I guess I'll have to play on a pangea like world.

Not at all, it's just something the AI isn't good at that needs to b worked on.

I agree, the naval and especially the "landing of the troops from water" is a HUGE AI blunder in C2C. But look at what has been accomplished, just plain WOW so far.

Don't know if this has been fixed since version 26-28, but the AI builds lots of police like units throughout the ages even if revolutions is off. From what I've heard, revolutions screws up the AI anyway. Sometimes its better to cut off your hand in order to save your arm. Probably the best to remove everything related to revolutions from the game (promotions, units, buildings, civics, etc), I don't know much about programming, but I'm assuming it's only doing harm.

What's been done to improve the AI, combat wise, since then?

It handles REV pretty well these days actually, and the police are not being built for any Aston lated to REV, but to control crime, which is not an option.
