question about .asf files

does anyone know why some .asf and .asx cannot be fast forwarded, or cant be picked to go to a certain time in a movie?

As far as I know it all depends on the Codec you are using as well as the player.

If you just use WMP, then sometimes you can't fast forward.. unless you put it into full screen mode - but that only works sometimes.

I have also heard that either/both WiMP (Windows Media Player) 6.4 and 7.1 can play .asf files and are able to jump around in the files. Pretty stupid that you cannot in newer version.
