Question about great scientists and city placement

I'm playing an immortal fractal map on normal speed and I have a couple of questions. I appreciate all the input.

I rolled Hammurabi this morning and got lucky with the huts, that gave me a map plus mysticism and masonry. As I also had marble, I went to literature to build the Great Library. I did. Now I don't know what to do with my future scientists.

You see, I am isolated and only had 1 source of happiness (ivory) so I didn't try the pyramids. Now I'll have more scientists than I could hope for and don't know what to do with them. Should I settle all in my capital? Should I build academies everywhere? Should I save 2 to bulb astronomy? I don't usually research alphabet in isolation so bulbing seems a rather poor alternative.

Besides that, I don't know how to settle my south. I made a dot-map, but I'd like to hear some input. Pictures are in spoilers.

Capital, just whipped the library.

Already settled land (popped silver there)

And the map showed there's more land to the east, but I don't know how to settle to establish contact. See those peaks?

First things, you should send a wb around the mountains in case the land curves around. There might be a shallow enough bridge to cross over.

Otherwise, bulbing to astronomy might make sense for you. So use one for optics, 1-2 for astro. Or just do like normal and bulb towards liberalism. If it means researching alphabet, so be it.

Your capital has a lot of river+grassland+food resources so it may be worthwhile to settle your first GS and make your capital a science city.

The south of the island has a lot of hills so you could look to slap a production city somewhere as well but your going to want to rush for astronomy so you can move off that island asap.

Also you do have 3 coastal cities so a GLH would work well in the northern city. I can't recall the other wonders that help having soo many coastal cities but it will help in the commerce department which leads to my next point.

One thing i do notice is you have a lot of cottages setup. If you want to persue a couple of specialist cities it would have been better for farms and less cottages. But at the same time you may need some for commerce.

I am no expert though.

Get optics and explore of island. Settle more land! Use heritary rule and stuff to make a massive gp farm in capital :). Try and tech at a stupidly fast rate everywhere.

Ok, so I'm torn between saving 2 scientists to bulb astronomy (optics is so fast to research that I won't even bother) and settling them all in my capital. Good to be reminded about sending a workboat to see if there's a possible contact already.

I'm still unsure about how to settle the south. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

Edit: The GLH would be great, but it's long gone by now.

GLH wouldn't actually have been that great. By the time you get intercontinental routes, you're already probably somewhat close to corporation, and before then, you're only getting an extra 2 commerce a turn. It's not bad, but it really only is worth it once you can get the overseas routes.

As for the south, it's awkward. Honestly, I think settling on the horse almost looks like the best bet. Chain irrigate, mine the hills, and it'll be an okay production city.

True, but who said you have to rush to corporation?

BTW, I played some more, made some good friends and found a target for my (still inexistent) war machine.

I know you're not supposed to start trading with the first guys that show up when you're isolated, but I did and it turned out alright because they were all members of a big hugfest. I chose to double bulb education, which let me win liberalism and get this:

It was huge here.

After meeting everyone, I decided to become a Buddhist and run organized religion. Why, you ask? Look at this:

I also declared war on Toku to get some extra diplo points, which led to this diplomatic situation:

Pretty lucky, right?

Thank you all for the help. I really appreciate it.
