Having heard that indoor water fountains help remove dustparticles from the air I have considered buying one. does anyone know if there are any grounds on this?

The reasoning should be that the moving water traps the dustparticles when the water comes in contact with it and I feel that it sounds fair enough but have no way of knowing this.

I've never heard that before, but it does make sense. A pretty ingenious way to keep air clear in my opinion.

There's an article here that does its best to sound like nonsense. Apparently running water releases negative ions which combat the positive ions emitted by electronics, improve your health and stop babies crying... who'd have known?

Yeah I too stumbled upon a few articles about ions and chi and stressrelief and so on, which would be a nice addition, but as you pointed out they do come of as some sort of new-age pseudoscience aka I keep thinking about those very expensive lava rocks everyone bought in the 90's to protect against computer screens, when I read one of those aticles.

Which is why I wanted to hear if someone had more knowledge about this. And the argument for why the water fountain could work as an air purifier makes sense to me. But I just bought a remote controlled Dalek, so I have to get someone elses opinion before I throw more money away:)

seems like you'd need a pretty big fountain. And where I live, there is lots of dust. :D

This obviously would need water to replenish water lost to evaporation in the air. And we already have a water shortage where I live...

I live in Denmark and I dont think we have as much dust in the air as you guys in Las Vegas(guessing by your location)

I had trouble finding a non company source on a google search (I'm lazy and only look at the first few results anyways :) )

I question the source of this info, but I will reprint it.

But now, one scientist has proven that water fountains actually purify the air. A scientist with Quality Environmental Services examined the difference that a fountain can make in a 2700 square foot space. After examining the air content after one month, the results signified that the 84” tall fountain removed as much dust and debris as a HEPA air purifier. A water feature is the perfect way to cleanse stale indoor air, and the larger the water fixture is, the more purification that results.
