Question about Maps and Player setup, please help.

Hi there my name says it all, this isnt a very advanced question but i'm new to the game and have to ask.

I'm wandering if there are any maps aside from the fairly basic one i have at the moment that i can use to add some variation to the game (i.e. Europe, North America, World, etc)

Also when i'm starting a game, i want to start as the English, but it seems whilst i can change the name and gender of my player i cannot change the pic of Queen Elizabeth. The little things can be very frustrating so if anyone has sussed how to get round this please let me know. Thank you,

You can find some custom maps here and here.

To play as, say, Victoria, instead of Elizabeth, you might be able to do it if you load the map/scenario using Custom Scenario instead of Play a Scenario. Otherwise, it would involve editing the game file.
