Question about Selecting Units in Stacks

I'm having trouble with this 80ish unit army that I'm running around. For some reason, the commands that I use to select numerous units seem to have stopped working. Specifically, I'm referring to the CTRL/Shift/Alt + left click commands. All they do is select one unit in the army, often not even the one I'm left-clicking. CTRL + left click will select the single most powerful unit of the type that I'm trying to select, rather than all of that unit type. Alt + left click selects the single most powerful unit in the entire army, rather than the entire army. Shift + left click doesn't do anything, anymore, it seems.

I have the Svart hero Alazkan the Assassin in the stack, and he's never responded to those commands, much like the hill giants I had earlier in the game. But all of the other units I have in the stack (at varying experience levels) used to be able to be selected correctly, but not anymore: Fauns, Assassins, Priests of Leaves, the tigers those Priests summon, and Mages.

Does anybody know what's going on with my army? Moving one unit at a time is tedious, and I've been trying to experiment with different ways to split the army to see if one type of unit was screwing it up for the rest of the stack, but no luck.

If you have any Hawks or hidden nationality units in the same stack with regular units then the group selection shortcuts will behave strangely.

If you have a Hawk that is elegible for orders in a stack then attempting to group-select any unit in the stack will instead select the Hawk. Hawks that have already used up their move are ignored. You can have the Hawk execute a recon mission and then you will be able to group-select the other units normally.

If you attempt to group-select targeting a hidden nationality unit, and there are any non-HN units in the stack, then you will instead group select all the non-HN units. HN units cannot be selected in groups, either with each other or with groups of non-HN units. You will need to issue one order to your non-HN units, and then reissue that order to each HN unit individually.

cant we group hn units in ffh2 - is it still that way?
if yes this would be a very very nice thing to change. i think in ff you can group hn units, cant they?

Oh, damn. That's the problem. I had just cast the Svart World Spell. All the units in that army are now hidden nationality. Well, crap. Thanks for the help, Emptiness.
