ive played 3 games full in civ 3 so far, and i cant recall the answer to my question. can you upgrade to a special unit? so if you had a regular fighter, could you upgrade that to a F-15? or if you had a Knight, could you upgrade that to a Cossack? of course you would have to be the civ with the special unit. Im trying to think which civ is now my favorite, since im getting up in the difficulty levels. at the moment im partial to the Japanese, but I was looking for something a little quicker. then I thought cossack, because a calvary is the last unit you can upgrade to, and with the cossack you can still stay competive to the middle of the modern age.

Nope.

One of the mods I've seen (and use) give all of the "superceded" units to all the civs for just this reason. If you're China, and you just got Chivalry, your Horsemen stay Horsemen, 'cause there's no where for them to grow. If you want a Rider, you're going to have to start from scratch.

ps: my vote is for the Cossack or the Rider.
