During a game last night, I tried to protect a worker by moving an archer between it an a barb (warrior, I think). I thought the ZOC would keep the barb from moving by the archer and snagging the worker.

The barb went right around my archer, moving from SW, to S, to SE of my archer in one turn.

So how was the Barb able to get to my worker by going right in front of my archer? I thought ZOC meant they couldn't go more than one space if both spaces are next to an enemy.

Thanks in advance!

I am not sure, but i don't think units that are not capable of melee attacks have ZOC . Needs testing.

basically if any unit moves between two tiles that are adjacent to any enemy military unit or city, then it will expend all of its movement points.

on one occasion i thought i witnessed otherwise, but tbh i was tired and in retrospect I cant be sure for I havent noticed any further discrepancies. to prove anything there must be before and after saves

There are some positionings when a unit can seemingly bypass the ZOC. To completely protect teh unit, the attacker, blocker and protected unit must be in a straight line, which is easier in diagonal or West-East positioning, but tricker in North-South positioning.
