Soon after the start of the game, foreign bloodlines will start to spread around. They'll will in every city without one randomly, just like the normal spread of religion. When a foreign bloodline appears in one of your cities, and it's from a neighbour, switch to it to improve relations. Then, get Open Borders and spread your own bloodline within his land to get him to switch to you. Rinse and repeat as needed with other factions to make your bloodline dominant. ;)

Alternately, when you find extra resources, give them to another bloodline without asking for anything in return. Eventually you'll get the "We appreciate the years you've supplied us with resources" positive modifier, which should permit Open Borders. Just be careful to watch out for the "Traded with our worst enemy" modifier, which can really hurt you with the default relations as low as they already are.

the first thing I do every time I play this scenario now is to switch to no state bloodline, it pretty much makes everyone OK with you and the culture loss isnt enough to make it a bad thing

Give this man a prize. Best advice yet. Truth be told, you'll still get the cultural bonus, you just won't get the happiness bonus. So make sure to keep your people happy and you'll manage just fine.

wow, i cant believe i forgot the happy bonus, but I like to play as Yan, and Yan with Daoism doesnt have any happiness problems for the whole game really. I forgot its actually better for culture if you have no bloodline cause you can pick up the culture for multiple religions in one city.
