QUESTION - How To Spawn Near Friend?

I am trying to play multiplayer with my friend and want to be able to spawn near him in the beginning of the game, for obvious reasons.

Without being on a team or being on a small map, how can he and I spawn near each other?

World Builder is the only sure-fire answer I know of for general games. I believe that some mods allow culturally linked starts (England starts near France and Germany, or Greece starts near Rome and Egypt, for instance) but I don't know if there's a mod that adds that feature alone.
