Questions about The BUG Mod

First of all, a big "Thank you" to all the folks who've made the BUG/BAT mod as good as it is. It really increases the enjoyment I get from the game, and makes it more fun to play.

I'm presently playing BTS 3.17 with BUG 3.0 and BAT 1.0. I have a small problem, and I wanted to find out if there's an easy solution, or something I'm overlooking, before I install the most recent BUG 3.5.1 and BAT 1.1:

Each time I've installed (or updated) BUG/BAT, the "Hall of Fame" shows no entries for previous wins and their replays. The files are still in the "Replays" folder, but they don't show in the "Hall of Fame" screen.

*While* using any particular version of BUG/BAT, the entries for games that I finished under that version are there; it's only when I updated BUG/BAT that the entries don't show anymore.

Is there any way to retain these entries? It isn't so much that I want to gloat over my victories -), but it's handy to recall what I did and scored sometimes.

Thanks for any help with this, and thanks again for the BUG/BAT mods!

Hi there, I just started using BUG, and while I managed to set almost everything I wanted in options, there are still two things I could use help with:

1) Is there a way to force game into using original health bar on unit icons? (i.e. under the icon one, as opposed to BUG health/movement bars that go above the icon)

2) In this post there is a screenshot of some interesting changes to food/production bar that I didn't see in the mod - is it from some another mod, from SVN, or am I just blind :p

That is what BUG is all about, take what you want, revert what you don't.

No. And I hate that I cannot totally remove these features too. I sometimes like to play with BUG but produce screenshots as if it was raw BtS. These unit icons break that. BTW - the code to do this is very very nasty and I can totally understand BUG (us) not doing it. I have specifically said I will not work on that section of the code. :run:

I don't know. The tick marks on the production bar are in. Not sure about the food. It is probably in the SVN (as EF implies that it is) but I haven't looked at the SVN for a while.

Hi I just installed this mod and its very good, i've only got one problem, everything LOOKS different, its like the graphics have been altered, its all grayish and grainy and i can't tell the difference between forest and jungle, is there any way to change this back to how it was originally?

you can uninstall it from the control panel. Try uninstalling it, and then reinstall BUG 3.5.1 and download the Blue Marble graphics pack.

Ummm, it seems to me that the problem is the blue marble graphics pack, i seems to come with the other two, BUG and BAT but i don't like it, is there a way to just get rid of that part?

BAT includes the Improved Graphics mod, and you can remove it without uninstalling BAT. Delete the file "IG_v2.0.7.FPK" from the Assets folder in BAT's mod folder.

I play using BlueMarble and find it easier to tell the difference between terrains than IG. The stock graphics are the easiest to differentiate, but they're not as pretty as either.

Does BUG work with unnoficial civ4 patch?

Yes, install just the DLL and XML files. Leave the Python files from the unofficial patch out as BUG already has all those changes itself.

I try to register at SourceForge.net today to download the latest BUG, and I can't get in. I create a new account, and then get a "no user name" when I try to log in.

Is SourceForge off for Xmas? Does anyone know? Is there some other way to get this file?

You don't have to register at SF.net to use the SVN repository. Just install an SVN client, give it the right URL (as posted here: click), and it will download the latest version.
Apart from that you can always install the latest daily build from here: click

Thanks. That was helpful.

However, I have buried myself in a further problem (a specialty of mine).

Right now, I have Civ on the latest official patch (3.17), which I just installed today. I then forgot to first uninstall the old BUG mod (version 2.11) that I had been using when I last played this game a year ago. Instead, I just followed the Doc's instructions for installing an SVN client.

The BUG mod did not show up at all.

Then I remembered that I was supposed to get rid of the old BUG before installing the new one, so I found my BUG 2.11 files and deleted them all.

I updated SVN again.

Then I started a game, and I'm seeing BUG 2.11 (which I thought I uninstalled) on the screen. And when I type CTRL-ALT-O and the Edit screen comes up, I can't get out of it. When I hit the Exit button, nothing happens and I am stuck.

Help! How should I proceed to get the latest BUG (BUG only, not the other one) running?

From the little bit I can pick up from reading these forums, something about deleting "Custom Assets" folders or their content? If so, what "Custom Assets" folders, and exactly where? And if not, what?

Start by deleting the CustomAssets folder in "My Documents/My Games/Beyond the Sword". Also delete the "BUG Mod" folder if it's there to get rid of old settings. This should get you back to a stock Civ4 installation.

From here you should be able to use SVN to install BUG by checking out the contents of the "BUG Mod" folder to that same folder above. This should create the "CustomAssets", "BUG Mod" and "PublicMaps" folders.

From there BUG should work for you. Are you using a Windows user name with non-English letters/symbols in it? Are you using the /AltRoot command-line option for Civ4?

Hey, since I installed the most recent version, all of my games in the hall of fame have W in front of the victory condition, like W-Conquest or W-Space Race. Why is this and how do I get rid of it? (Does it stand for Worldbuilder? I didn't use WB on all those games...)

IIRC, it stands for "Win" and fixes an issue with the Hall of Fame which was broken some time ago.

Precisely. Games you lost should say "L-Conquest" or some other victory condition which an AI achieved despite your valiant efforts . . . and occasional forays into WorldBuilder. ;)

Good, good. How do I remove it? :p

(whatever the problem was it never bothered me and the W sort of annoying and it makes Dominat... not fit.)
