The Saves directory is created the first time you save a game. So start and save a game, or alternatively, create it yourself, but I don't remember where it should be located.

I have many games saved. My problem is finding it to save something else to it in the first place

Oh so that's how you look for those!! :mad: I'd tried to find .tmp files, but just searched the regular .tmp phrase and came with nothing. Thanks Speaker...

So whats the name of the directory that they are saved into in the first place??

Alrighty, here's one. Along time ago, MikeB posted an explanation of goody hut possibilities (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=359144#post359144) but the "Advanced Tribe" wasn't discussed. I recall some experimentations which were also made a long time ago where cultural expansion popping the hut made it happen alot, but without the search I can't get a link for it.

My question: What are the necessary conditions/restrictions for getting an advanced tribe (free city) from a hut? Most importantly, does the Expansionist trait play a direct role in it?

If you installed Civ III and then PTW into the default folders, there should be a "Civ3PTW" folder inside your Civ III folder, and a "Saves" folder inside that. There are actually 2 saves folders, one inside the Civ III folder for original Civ III games, and another inside the "Civ3PTW" folder for your e-mail games.

@pdescobar:
Not that I know the answer concerning the rules for a free city, but you might be interested in this test Bamspeedy made recently:

At least it shows a ratio settler:free city

I think I have an easier one: If both a period of anarchy ends and a tech will be discovered at the start of a turn, what comes first, gov change menue or tech choice menue?

Thanx Speaker, I finally found it a while ago. And somehow it was the same name as yours(except without PTW).

Now I just need to set up a shortcut to it & my life will be alot easier.

Thnx again!!

For the 'advanced tribes', in vanilla Civ3 you could *only* get them through cultural expansions (culture expansion at 100 cp or more).

In PTW, you can get them with units (instead of just culture), and 'free cities' does not follow the same rules like getting a settler does. (You can get cities if you have other settler running around, or being built, and you can get them if you have more cities than the average AI). Haven't tested it if expansionists plays a direct role in the odds of getting them, though.

@mayakovsky: the last city of a civ is AFAIK always his capital and I'm pretty sure that a capital can't culture flip.
There is a formula (see this post) which calculates the probability of a culture flip (and here, you can find a culture flip calculator). The relative distance to the capitals is one of the variables and since we're talking about a capital, this relative distance (infinite) would make the probability zero.
I'm not so sure about the mathematics, but it sounds logical :lol:

I cannot seem to find the screen that shows the active deals I have with another civ (1.29f). I contact a civ, click on active, clikc on new click on everything, then declare war out of frustration.

Please help

Click on your diplomacy screen. F4, I believe, and then on the right side, find the tab that says 'Trades'. When you click on another civ, it will show any active deals you have, and if they're under a 20-turn limit, how many turns left.

So you do not have to actually contact the other civ to get that info... as far as I can remember it only shows potential and active trades (but not what is being traded or for how long)... maybe I'm going mad. Does the same apply for peace treaties etc?

Right. . . But you know, now that I think of it, this is in PTW. VC3 you might have to contact them, and then click on the active deals. . . don't remember how it is in VC3.

Sorry if I misled you there. . . .

If any resource is included in the deal, you can also go to the trade advisor (F2 screen) to check import/export.

:goodjob::D
This has been by far the best "strange reason for declaring war" (or whatever that thread was called, can't find it atm).

In Vanilla Civ3, if you contact the AI, and click on "Active", you will see all active deals you have with that civ. If you see nothing, then either you are at war with them, or you have found a bug.

If all you see is "Peace Treaty", then you have no active trade deals with them.
