I've heard it talked about but has anyone created a program that makes trading easier or that at least lets us see if another civ has a scientific advance w/out going through the diplo channels to see if technology has anything new in it for each civ?
I've never heard of something like that, and it's probably impossilbe (for users) to make. :undecide:

Hi all .
I don't know if this was discussed before . There is strange thing
in trades . After 20 turns AI acknowledges me that deal is
about to expire . Let's say it's something like this

AI Me
40 gpt ---------------------- Gems

If I say that I accept deal then trade continues for another 20 turns .
If I click on string containing counter-proposal , in some cases
AI doesn't accept deal and even price lowering doesn't help .
Is it some kind of bug ?
I play PTW 1.21f.

If your income is negative the AI will not accept gpt. Additionally, they may have lost their other source of whatever they were trading you (in this case gems) and cannot trade their last source. Oh, I was reading in in the wrong direction. If the AI no longer has 40gpt to give, they cannot pay for your gems. They may have 0gpt to give and thus cannot pay for them at any price.

Thanks , Speaker .
But , as i mentioned , if I click on *I accept this deal * they will
pay . That means they do have gold ( and , yes , I'm the one offering
gems )

No, it just means the program code for the game doesn't check for that. Some things just are the way they are, because someone wrote the program that way. It doesn't have to "make sense".

leha, this is not a bug, when the AI offers to extend a deal or offers you a deal during their turns it is often a deal that is generous from their point of view. If the deal is remotely acceptable to you should accept that deal cause you can rarely get them to match that deal through renegotiation. ;)

[Edit:] Unless the AI's poistion has improved tremendously since the original deal, that is. Always need a bail out clause for these types of questions. :)

are you serious ? if you are , news for me .
Anyway , it is rather annoying , cause I should gamble every time it happens * try to squese more out of him , or loose all *
Life is not fair :(

Edit : It seems like you missed one point : IF i choose *accept*
AI agrees to the same deal and pays , IF i choose *counter-proposal* on the SAME negotiation screen I loose all

Do what I do, and turn off "Always renegotiate deals" on the Preferences screen. Then you won't be annoyed, because you won't get these offers at all, and won't have to decide whether to take them or not.

leha, not necessarily loose all but the renegotiate deals seems to just renew the deal on the old terms. It forces the AI to adjust accordingly if you accept. If you force further renegotiation you risk having the AI reposition it's situation (science and lux sliders for it's current position as it sees it) before you get a chance to bargain for the funds (meaning that now some GPT may no longer be available when the deal was first offered). The AI never gets a chance to adjust it's science and lux sliders to make deals like the human can so it's negotiation powers are rather limited. :(

hehe, that's what I started doing as soon as I figured out that I couldn't bargain better deals in these situations. Besides if you force the AI to accept deals through renegotiation then you do risk unintended wars, if they can't keep the payments up. ;)

Now I get the point .
Thanks , Cartouche Bee .
So , turning Renegotiate deals "on" kinda forces AI to pay ?
Cool :)

I guess that's right. It seems to make the AI player offer to extend the deal on the same terms, and then you can decide whether to accept or not. Of course, if they really don't want to be in the deal, they could declare war on you.

Seeing as how the search function is disabled, I'll throw this question here and see if anyone can point me to a thread or provide info.

It was just brought up in another board the question of what determines the length of time required for non-religious civs to change governments. I recall it mentioned that it has something to do with number of happy/etc. citizens. Is this true and are there other factors?

I also seem to recall someone saying that they butter their citizens up with the luxury slider prior to gov't changes.

Does this help?

I have a related question about anarchy: when I discover a new form of government, I can either accept the popup to go into revolution immediately, or I can wait until my turn, and then change. I usually wait for my turn, because that way I get to build stuff before going into anarchy, and also I can have all my workers do stuff at full speed before declaring anarchy, rather than immediately shifting to half speed.

But I'm not sure if I'm really coming out ahead or behind this way. I.e., if I accept the popup, then does the production that I immediately lose decrease my number of turns of anarchy by one?

Actually, if you have "automatically renegotiate deals" turned on. The AI will often comeback with something like "This has served it's purpose. I think we ought to let it die a proper death." And then it won't accept a further deal.

What I use this for is an indication that the AI may have more gpt now. He/she might be open to a different deal, and it is a good time to try.

Bamspeedy wrote this somewhere, You gain 1 turn of production if you accept immediatlley, although you do lose 1 of commerce and worker actions. (that may not be entirely correct, but its near enough :)) I prefer to do it at the end of the turn.

IMHO Always negotiate deals gets one into trouble. If you've got someone paying $30/turn for saltpeter and you have always renegotiate on, then you are going to lose that revenue when saltpeter is no longer necessary. If you just let it ride in the background, the AI will only drop the deal when they can't afford it anymore. This seems like a feature for those who forget what deals they've made and need to be reminded via a popup.

Usually I have something or other that I can sell to the AI for every dollar they've got to spare. :D
