Igmod, you can always swith your production to the Palace for a turn, then set it back to the ToE when required.

This of course requires your ToE city is not your capital and that you are not building the Palace elsewhere.

What's the deal with building a city on a resource? Do you lose the bonuses if the city and resource are in the same tile? I'm fairly new to this it's just confusing me.

Tiles that generate bonus food are the most valuable resource in the early game, and you lose this benefit if you build cities on them (all city centers produce 2 food, regardless of terrain or bonuses underneath).

Building cities on non-food resources is generally a fine idea.

Why cant i build a tactical nuke or an ICBM? I have researched all the techs. I also have uranium and aluminum in the resource box, yet neither units are on the list of things to build. Am i missing something?

You need the Manhatten Project to have been built by someone to build Nukes.

A couple of questions - since I've tried hunting through the fora with no luck
(please give us back the search function!)

1. There was a SOTD a little while ago with an army and a bunch of explorers pillaging IIRC. Does anyone know what the thread title was, or even better have a link to it?

2. Related question: If I pillage all the connections to the Ai capital (including blocking sea and air routes) I understand that stops AI trades.
What about the rest of the Ai cities. Can they still build e.g. infantry, or will they be restricted to non-resource units, even if the resource is actually linked to the outlying cities.

Thanks for any pointers

They can, of course, build units that require a resource if they have the necessary strategic resource. You can see for yourself: if you have a city that's linked by a road to a resource, but not to your capital, it will still have the strategic resource in its box and can build units that require that resource.

What they can't do is trade with other civs, simply because trade always goes to the capital. No connectivity to the capital means no trade, even if there are non-capital cities that do have connectivity to other players.

Thanks DDJ. I had thought that thread (I don't think it's an actual SOTD) implied that by cutting the AIs capital off the player had been able to restrict the AI to building obsolete units.

I guess he meant "in the cut off cities" not throughout the empire.

If you have nukes you can go for some real resource denial. Hit every resource they have. Of course, if the AI plops a city down on a resource, they'll still have access to it. And if they have airports. . . well. . .you'll need to send some troops to them.

 MI to riflemen in one turn. . .that's sweet.

Sure, probably so. Probably the AI didn't have the key resource anywhere inside its territory, so the only way it could get it was through trade, and cutting off the capital prevents that.

That's something I'm dealing with currently . I'm punishing France
and their capital Paris is totaly isolated by my troops and all roads
are pillaged . Still , they are sending hordes of riflemen , is it
because reflemen don't need resources ? And if a capital has
wonder doesn't pillaging stop its effect ( say , Paris have
Universal Suffrage , will it continue work after pillaging ? )
Thanks in advance .

Right, Riflemen are the 'base' units, that don't need resources. So even though they are cut of, they can still build Riflemen, assuming that they have Nationalism.

As for the pillaging, do you mean raze the city after capturing it? Or are you refering to something else? If you raze a city with a wonder in it, the wonder (and it's affects) go bye-bye. If you capture the city, then you get the wonder bennies.

Thanks , Turner .
No , I didn't mean raze city , I ment pillage . By your answer I
understend that pillaging of the roads near city doesn't make
wonder in this city absolete .

I get it, you mean if there are no roads does that mean that the GW acts like a resource. Nope, that doesn't matter. Build the Pyramids, and then found a new city not connected to the Pyramids, but on the same continent. Even tho they aren't connected, they still recieve the Granary bonus. Works for all of them like that.

Ok . BTW , I'm engaged now in very long and hard war against
France ( they started it ) , they were most powerfull nation on
my continent and other civs are not much help in military sence .
Now I'm on french territory and slowly they are falling back . But
my artillery stuck because they are sending lots of riflemen and
artillery is wasting move turns on lowering their hit points . May
be I should pillage all roads by artillery fire ( but it will slow me
down later and captured cities will need those roads back ) ?

That's a tough one. Got your pros and cons. I would leave the trade network in tact, this way when you capture any cities you've got them hooked up to your lux's and resources. Sounds like they're pumping out quite a few defenders. I would probably start building a lot of arty to help take them off. Or just dig in for the long war. Can you base some bombers close to the front? That would help a lot, giving you more striking distance than just arty.

When I put a link on a page to a .zip file, how do I get it to display how often it has been downloaded?

Sir Eric, if you use the attachment feature you get to see the number of downloads. If you use the uploads feature you don't.

It is best not to use the attachment feature too much since it stores the data very inneficciently in the database, whereas the uploads feature just links to a proper URL location.
