Yay, it works, and it even carried the save games. By the way, what's so different about this version? I can't spot any immediate ones...

First you should see something like "v1.29f" in the lower left-hand corner of the Main Menu.

Somewhere on this site is a list of the differences that the Patches added/changed/deleted. :)

Knickers: Once you get accustomed to v1.29 you might want to check out the GOTM forum. There is a mod pack that will let you simulate what PTW looks like.

Newbie playing C3C on the Mac. Losing in total score to the Celts by about 100 points, who have a lot of land on another continent. I'm leading in culture, but don't know if I can pull off a cultural win before the game ends. It is now about 1450. Also, the Dutch just caused a culture flip in one of my bigger cities that was right on their border, a pop 9 city. I'm the Spanish, playing on Warlord. I have a city on an island with a lot of Celtic cities. But all the land on that other continent is taken. Government: Democracy. Any tips to catch up or win outright?

What's your technology situation? Is Space Race a possibility? Otherwise, change to Monarchy, start cranking out military units and go postal.:hammer:

How advanced are the Enemy? unless you can speed up your research, you may have to put on your fighting trousers. :D How are you doing with resources?
1450 is past the half-way mark in the game.

edit: how rude of me not to welcome you here...Welcome!
I recommend you browse the CFC War Academy. There's also a Civ3 Macintosh forum if you have...umm...Mac issues.

I think I'm a little bit ahead of them, I've got iron and horses. I have a good chance to get saltpeter, as there is a Dutch city that I have surrounded. I think if I keep cranking out cultural improvements in those cities it will flip, downside is their capital isn't so far away. The Dutch military is a bit better than mine. I have lots of luxuries to trade, but the AI won't give me didly squat for them. My civs infrastructure is good, lots of production going on, but I'm not making up any ground on the Celts, even though I've built a couple wonders recently.

For specific advice you'd be best off uploading a save for people to look at...but I guess you need to do that in the Mac Forum.

Fighting the Dutch will be tough, assuming they have Iron (Swiss Mercs).

Yeah, the Dutch have the Mercs. I saved and then tried to take that one city last night, but they showed me the door. Probably time to build some Conquistadors and attack the Celts. Thanks for the welcome and I'll check the War Acadamy.

At least I did a good job of hemming in the Sumerians so well that they only have 3 cities. Should I just try to wipe them out?

Use Knights rather than Conquistadors to attack, but I think you'll need Trebuchets too.
Conquistadors are useful for pillaging resources, though.

Yes, I would.

I wanted a more crowded small map than the default allows.

I've went thru the editor and did the necessary adjustments and it seems to work fine. My question is when you go to 'Civ-Content' to start my crowded small map game, how do you set it up so there is 'no preview available'?? In other words, I want to keep the map a mystery (without having to look away). In the editor, I zoomed way in to keep the mystery, but a minimap pops up when I select my scenario in 'Civ-Content'

btw Is there a different way besides zooming to keep the map a mystery in the editor??

You can set up the scenario without a map, that way it'll say "no preview avaialble" and the map will be random. I can't tell you where the option is off the top of my head, unfortunately.

Yea, if you want a "no preview available" then you'll need to use random maps: Go to the scenario tap i think it is and uncheck "custom Map" it will randomize it, and delete your map if you made one.
