In the Conquests editor, press Spacebar and select the civ you want to place units for. Then in the tool bar up the top, two new icons will become available (hover over them with the mouse to find them). If you look carefully, you'll see a button for "adding units" and a button for "adding cities". Click them, and do as you please. If you want to place units/cities for a different civ, just press Spacebar again. Once you're all done, save the map as a Scenario, load it up in the game under "Load Scenario" or "Civ-Content"... and enjoy! :)

I've got a couple more questions...:

  1. If I switch some things in the conquests file (appears as a scenario file), will my civ not be playable?
by some things, I mean civ colors...

  2. If it is playable (by me), will other players be able to play my saves?

I was thinking of that, but I thought they would think of mods. :p

thanks though, I'll give it a try. :)

Hi,
I'm not really a newcomer but I do have a newbie question about the government "Democracy". Playing Civ3 Complete out of the box.

The Civopedia in game says it gets a production bonus. How can I tell if I'm getting the bonus? When I count up the shields in the window I can't really tell where the bonus is. Is it all shield producing tiles being worked or just the city tile?

I spy on the A.I. civs and they are fascist but I can't really notice a production difference in shields when compared to my own cities.
Is there a bug or what?

I'll check it again when I demobilize but I wanted to ask you guys first.
I rarely play Democracy because I usually stick with Republic for less WW.
I'll switch back if I can't figure out this shield thing.

Thanks in advance!

I hate to say so, but there are a lot of errors in the manual and the civilopedia. Becareful of what you read.

Serious. In Democracy (And Republic) you get what's called a Commerce Bonus, which is simply every time that produceses at least one commerce gets one more. There is no Prodcution bonus with a government type. However, it should be noted that you will see increased production as a result of having lower corruption.

A minor change like that should be okay. It's not like you're adding/deleting units, improvements, techs...stuff like that.

can I find a list somewhere of all the rankings (i.e. Ybbor the Great, Rob the puny, etc.)

It's in the Civilization III\Text\labels.txt file
History will remember you as:
the Worthless
the Pathetic
the Foolish
the Meek
the Cruel
the Terrible
the Fair
the Strong
the Clever
the Conqueror
the Lion-Hearted
the Great
the Wise
the Magnificent

I don't play too much and my games hardly ever last to the Industrial age so I forgot how often the bombings from planes work, not how often they make it past the air supirority but how much they WORK!

Well, if you send a plane on a bombing mission and no other plane intercepts it, it "bombs" the tile. If it is a city it will go after units, then buildings/population. If it is just a tile, it will attempt to destroy it bit by bit...for example, the railroad and then the road/mine.

So if nothing intercepts it, it has a 100% sucsess rate?

No, but most of the time bombers wil succeed in destroying a terrain improvement (from my experience)
No, I think it has to do with their bombard power...rate of fire is for how many HPs they can take off units. The higher the power, the better the odds. And yes, I think terrain is easier to damage.

Why do planes become elite, or veteran? do they get better aim? :scan:
They gain an experience level after killing an interceptor...so the only bonus they get is a greater chance to survive future intercepts because they have more HP!

All you have to do is look at them and see if they are regular/vet or elite. I tend to make them without an airport.
