Thanks EMan. Yeah I've been doing that irragation for food but I assumed you had to dedicate a mine to a square to get the gold. Aabraxan saya I don't need mine to get the gold. Can I irragate a square and still take advantage of the gold resources for that square? I thought it was one or the other

Okay I am lost....when you say the citizen works the tile does that happen automatically (via a completed road thru the tile) or is there something I need to do to get the citizens to work specific tiles. Sorry for my confusion

Once you have improved the tile with a worker, you can get a citizen to work it in the city screen.

I have always clicked on a worked tile that I don't want them to work (removes that from the working tiles and creates an entertainer) then click on the tile you want them to work instead.

No, apparently, I'm not explaining this well. First, let's talk about "citizens." They are the people inside cities who work tiles and generate food, gold and shields for your empire.

Right click on a city. Go to "Zoom to City XYZ." That's the "city view." It shows you the citizens of City XYZ, and which tiles they're working. If a tile (in the middle of the screen) has food, gold, or shields on it, one of your citizens is "working" that tile. If you click on that tile, the food, gold or shields will disappear, and one of your citizens will become an entertainer. Click on a different tile and that citizen will now work the new tile. You can increase your empire's income by repeating this process to ensure that your citizens are working the most profitable tiles. Sometimes you'll need them to work high-food tiles, sometimes you'll need them to work high-shield tiles, and sometimes it'll be high-gold tiles that you need. The gold that you mentioned is a "bonus resource." That tile generates more commerce when "worked" by a citizen, but it's not necessary to build a mine to get the benefit of the gold.

Second, workers:

Workers are the little guys that you see on the main screen that do things like irrigate, build roads and mines. From the sounds of your question, though, that's not what's confusing you, so I'll leave it at that for now.

Edit: I've really got to get faster with these replies. Multi-x-posted again.

Whoa....totally did not make the connection of the citizen and tile working. I have been flying blind on that. Now I understand. Thanks all for the input.

Gold does not occur on terrain that can be irrigated. That said, there are other resources that can either be mined or irrigated. Yes, you still get the bonus, regardless of whether you mine or irrigate in those instances.

Putting Resources aside, you're right in that you can only mine OR irrigate a tile, NOT both (at the same time).

However, you CAN Road and Rail a tile in addition to Irrigating/Mining it. ;)

Generally speaking, you cannot irrigate a tile with gold. Gold is on hills or mountains and can't be irrigated.

(at least not in my vanilla...did this change in expansions?)

No......same under PTW and Conquests.

Volcanoes were added under Conquests........and you can't do nothing with them except watch 'em erupt and then go clean up the pollution!.........If you want the 3 shields from the Volcano tile and whatever other tile is polluted from the eruption. ;)

Hi, I'm new to the forums (and the Civ franchise), and I've got a quick question:

Is there any way to change colony names? Mine are all named "Firaxis Games is a trademark of Firaxis Games, Inc.", which is ugly and clutters the screen a lot.

Thanks for the quick response. I reinstalled, though, and it didn't do anything. Any other ideas? I found the relevant line in labels.txt; could I edit it manually? Or could someone just post the correct file here?

Hmm...I suppose that could cause problems, yeah. But this really sucks; anybody else have an idea for a fix?

Just change it to say what you want it to say. it is only a text file and won't affect the game.

To keep your hopes up; I remember there being a discussion about fixing this manually once. But i can't find it at the moment.

Have you tried patching? I mean, trying out various patches.

I remember the very first time I tried doing anything in the City View. I accidentally clicked on one of the tiles and I almost jumped out of my skin from being startled at the movement to an entertainer. Then I didn't know how to get it back the way it was, and I thought I'd broken the game.

I'm pretty sure it's not shifted by a line though, since everything else seems completely fine. The relevant portion of the file:

A real tough one here... fight's the good fight when he's stronger, but bails out at the first sign of trouble.
Would that I could have run away a spineless coward, rather than face the steel of my enemies.
Close the door on your way out.

Of course, this is about halfway through, so there's more above and below. Anything look terribly wrong there?

EDIT: Should the Colony be up a line? Should that Firaxis Games is a trademark of (etc.) line even be there?

Reinstalling should fix this problem.

And as stated, no one will upload the file. That's considered piracy here.

Reinstalling should fix this problem.

But the point is that reinstalling did not fix it... he said that he did that.

If it is a text file, just change the words.
