playing warlord level and have been having short wars with Perisa (last civ on my large Island, each time taking out around two of there key cities. Have now got all their iron production. Next war will take out their only saltpeter and possibly isolate their capital.

If my expansion sourounds their capitol so that the only road axcess to it is through my land, does that cut all their trades and lux bonuses?

If so, is it only the case while at war with them?

thanks

Thanks.

So to get the most benfit in my next war I should make that my piority to isolate their capitol quickly, but then not take the capitol. Instead focusing on taking there their other cities first, leaving there capitol till last. Civ just gets sneaker and sneaker.

I have two other fairly big islands to take after I wipe Perisa out, each island has one main civ and one smaller civ. When Dday comes if I take out their cities with harbours first will that stop that civ being able to trade with civs on the other island?

Yes.

Also if your naval units blockade the harbored-city, the trade route is broken. (Viz. the AI must have a clear path thru Coast/Sea/Ocean tiles between Harbors, depending on its Scientific Tech Level, for the Trade Route to be established.)

This way, you won't have to actually capture/raze the AI's port city. ;)

Wouldn't the AI need the road "clear" in order to trade with other AI's? :)

Yes, I think so. But that actually is the case for all the civs that you are at peace with. So, a way to see it is that your 'friends' use your roads to do trade with your enemies.

(Would work for you as well, but watch out whom you sign up for wars. ;))

I would like to invade another continent, so I placed 4 carriers closely to soften up defense. I have put jet fighters on them (bombers too, of course) but they are useless. I commanded them "air superiority mission" but they don`t engage in battle with enemy bombers which are destroying my battleships and carriers. Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug?
P.S.
1. I remembered that I didn`t patched Civ3 (I tried Civ4 before and patched it, but my comp isn`t good enough beyond 1900 - 2000 A.D.).
2. If I patch it now (if a patch would fix my problem), will I be able to continue current game (I`m a "noob" at this, because I don`t play a lot of games)?

Welcome borchm! :D
Unfortunately I don't believe you will be able to continue your present game should you patch.

You bring up something I've been wondering about though, I know Air Superiority works some of the time but I seem to remember it not happening all the time (been a long time since I played anything in the modern days, a long long time). Is there a % chance of the fighters taking off? They can only perform their mission once/turn, right? Also a little ot, does precision bombing work?

Looks like I've asked more than I answered... :mischief:

Thank you for your welcome. I love this game, thus I havent played it since Civ1 (long, long time ago - by the way, sorry if my spelling won`t be always correct, my English is a bit rusty).
1. Yes, fighters are taking off, but they only perform recon missions and switch base. I can also bomb with them, but it is always a failure.
2. You are wondering if I wait for the turn, when the fighters should intercept the bombers. The answer is also yes.
3. And about precision bombing. I am just discovering stealth tehnology, so I don`t know yet.

So as I understand, I won`t be able to use my carriers for attack. I`ll use them for defence and my only option is to go for the space race victory.

I have another question also. When you capture enemy city, how can you destroy it, when there is a resistance there. I have about ten cities with shield production 1 (and about 20 - 25 waste) and I dont have so much money to buy city improvements.

Actually, you can continue old games, just not newer games on the old version. ;)

I That depends on the version. Vanilla or PTW should be OK, but if you patch C3C then old saves will not load, because of the changes to the tech tree.

Just because you have never applied a patch it does not mean that you are actually playing a version that needs to be patched. If I am not mistaken then the Civ3 Complete package for example comes with all the three versions already up to the latest version, i.e. no patching necessary.

If you need to patch can be seen from that version of your current copy. That version can be found in the lower left hand corner of the splash screen. Maybe it would be best if you posted these, or at least compare with the versions that need no patching.

These are:
Version 1.29f -- Vanilla
Version 1.29b2 -- Vanilla (Mac)
Version 1.27f -- PTW
Version 1.22f -- Conquests
(Correct me anybody if that is wrong)

Hi guys, just a quicky. My Civ assist II is broken :S think its because I dont have the right patch for my game?? Think I need the 1.29f patch, but I dont really know how to instal it or anything, little help needed!!

I think CA works on all versions and patch levels, so I would be more suspecting Framework patching.

And now its back to the old "PATCH THEORM".

Actually, when you start to download the 1.22 patch, it says that old games would still work, but newer games wouldn't work on the old version. Look it up.

PS I'm not trying to be mean or anything, so don't take this the wrong way.

Oh, and what's CivAssistII?

Here is where you can learn about and get to download CAII

it is a very useful utility for civers.
