Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Aaright, here's my question.
I have an amazing mod that I made (replacing the Americans with Caribs, their unique unit? A fast, better worker.)...
And I would like to play it with custom rules (and a palace view.)
So, my question is, is there either a way to edit the Civ III game files direct with the civ III edit? (
I've made backups, and have no qualms about re-installing if I mess up)
Or is there a way to make a mod that will let you choose your own rules?
I would like the first option much better; I'm picky about my start positions, and like to explore a bit then go back and use the 'play last world' option.
I run the steam gold edition of Civ III.
Thank you so much, I've looked everywhere and found nothing.

Not an expert on modding, check creation forum for those. If you have a mod you should be able to out a folder in the Scenario folder with your art/units files, etc. Create a BIC and add it in the Scenario folder, but not in your mods folder.

You can make custom rules for the mod. Well at least you can in C3C, not sure about vanilla. Again check the creation forum for better responses.

Does a palace jump to a newly captured city filled with resistors and having lots of native culture prevent it from flipping?
can anyone give me a primer on palace jumping or link to one? Thanks

The palace cannot flip, so I would expect that in your scenario it would not flip either. My primer is forget about in C3C. In vanilla it was used quite a bit as the FP was very good at reducing corruption.

So you jump the palace and the core is still fairly production with an FP around. In C3C the FP was nerfed, so jumping the palace means the old core is now not all that strong and the new core probably does not have near the build up.

That does not mean it is never a valid option for example being on a small island could be a case for it.

Thanks VMXA. In an all war SG I was playing we were on a peninsula and the defeated AI's on our continent was in wide open spaces, so a palace jump was entertained. Abandoning the capitol with all time and shields invested in infrastructure makes me always hesitant.

It was SGFN-08. I remember securing the chokepoint and completing the conquest of our continent.

I remember playing some early turns then losing a Civ computer. :(

I have noticed that I no longer get an icon for unmet leaders. Did they eliminate this part.

I dl'd a really good graphic for this and it never did show up. I just realized that nothing shows up.

Is this my game problem or just the new way to go?

You mean in the Diplomatic Advisor screen? Yeah, mine (Complete) only shows leaders I've met; my dad's (PtW), however, I think shows "???" leaders until he's met them.

Ok... so it was likely a Vanilla bit then. I rather liked it. :(

Go to the Espionage screen.

Go to the Espionage screen.

I have never seen leaderhead style pics in the espionage screen. Are you sure about that?

The "who leader" icon was for the diplomatic screen and was a place holder until you met that civ.

Hi, maybe someone can help me.

I have just finished my own quick mod and at the very end I was doing cleaning of unit's folder form unwanted units and I did the same in civ3 editor. Because I have new settlers units and workers for my nations then I wiped out default settler unit from editor. After that I realised that all my players staring location were wiped out completely from a mod map and I can't put them back. I have tried to put back settlers again but p.s.location are still not available to use. Settlers this time is on the last position in editor unit's list and before was on first. I think this might cause the problem. Anyone knows how to fix it?

You can see "unmet" at the espionage screen, that's all.

I have complete so I have it, I just never tried it.

When playing 20k games, how many shields per turn for your 20k city is desirable to produce quality results? I realize the answer will vary at different stages of the game i.e. after learning Steam Power. Thanks.
