Hey guys,

I feel like I'm taking over this thread with all of the questions I'm asking but I've got one more for you guys.

I still only have vanilla so this may be in the expansions but I don't know. I was wondering if it was possible to move a "stack" of units instead of one at a time. Like if I have 6 infantry on the same spot is there something I can do to get them all to move together?

Thanks one again!!

Press the "j" key and then left-click where you want them to go. ;)

If this doesn't work, buy Conquests! :)

If it does work, buy Conquests! :groucho:

P.s. Ask as many questions as you want.

Rule Of Thumb: As long as people are answering, keep on asking! :)

@JaggedRuler
Yes ask away buddy ... because you voicing a question answers it for many ... those who either don't feel comfortable in posting or who have not thought about the issue ... I am in the latter category ... I never use the stack options and also prefer mouse to KB for commands ... yet I learnt something new through your question ... thank you :D

Anyway we are a very friendly community here at CFC :goodjob: ... Oh and buy C3C ;)

Yes, ask away. We don't mind.

In fact, if you wanted to spend the time reading through the old threads, you'd see a lot of questions are repeated, and often times answered by the same people. We don't get upset at that, that's the whole point of the thread!

So no worries, ask away! ;)

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I love reading this site and it definately helps me pass the day at work. Its making me want to get home faster and play though so its driving me crazy lol.

I'm looking forward to improving my skill in the game so I can actually join in on the GOTM and things like that.

Well, one more question. I just ordered conquests, is it worthwhile to get PTW also?

Conquests includes PTW so it is pointless to buy PTW in your situation.

Oh, and you probably ought to join the GOTM no matter what your skill level. There are lots of beginners playing also and it will help you move forward.

Do they even make PTW anymore. Conquests has been out for a year and everyone is buying that. Does the gold edition now contain conquests since it is the latest version. They should also include a link to this site with the games installation since this site is so massive. I wonder how long it will be before the first expansion comes out of civIV

A quick question for the experts out there:

What is the factor for shields gained when a unit disbands?

Does it change with recycling?

Do Crusaders & Ancient Cavalry have shield values?

Edit: Never mind on the Crusaders (70) and Ancient Cavalry (40) question

IIRC - disbanding in a city produces the number of shields that it initially cost to produce the unit ... therefore those units produced by wonders return nix, nothing, neda ...

EDIT - Wrong  Sorry :mischief:

It is always 25% of the shield value rounding down, regardless of how the unit was produced.

Love C3C, finally got around to playing it.

The pieces are moving for me as if they were on the "fast piece slide" from Civ II. How do I disable this to allow the units to move as normal?

Thanks in advance,

Stunner :goodjob:

Just a guess, but you may have "animate friendly moves" or something similar turned off in your preferences. Hit the upper-left-hand button for the menu and go to preferences, and see if you have any animations turned off.

Thank you both, the issue was with the Cap Lock!

If you don't mind, let me throw out another rookie question.

What is the Game of the Month and how to I participate? How long does a game generally take? What are the conditions? How many play?

Thanks again,

Stunner

The Game of the Month (GOTM - Civ3 and PTW, or COTM for C3C) is a competition where everyone plays the same game. A starting save file is released (which you put in your ../Saves/ folder), and you play the game, and when you finish (either win or lose), you submit it via the GOTM website. It's competely automated. You can win by any victory, however, they use "Jason" scoring, which is different, so that 'milking the game' (irrigating everyone and hitting enter every turn to get a big score, basically) doesn't provide a huge score benefit. The Jason score is pretty similar to the regular score, though.

A game runs for a month. COTM is from the 1st of the month to the end, and the results are usually posted within a few weeks. "Classic" (ie, no C3C) GOTM runs from the 15/6th to the 15th. For the GOTM, the most recent one had 114 people submit. For the COTM, the most recent one had 137 people submit. As you can tell, it's pretty popular. You might want to ask some of these questions in the GOTM forum. Good luck!

Welcome to CFC! :)

As a frequent XOTM player, I'll take this one.

First of all welcome to CFC

There are 2 different games played each month. The first is the Conquest of the Month (COTM) and runs from the 1st to the last day of the month. You'll need to have the most current release of C3C (1.22) loaded to be able to play. Just download the game and start playing. There are a couple of rules (like no reloading/replaying turns) that you'll have to follow, but in general it's a good way to learn how to get better. The most recent one became available about 2 weeks ago and is COTM 11.

The second game is the GOTM, also known at the Classic Game. This can be played on either PTW or Vanilla at the final patch levels. The PTW version is just download and play. The Vanilla version requires a downloaded mod pack to include new units and tribes that were added with PTW. This one runs from the 15th to the 15th and GOTM 42 started this morning.

For both games, a spoiler thread will open about five days after the game begins and will normally cover the ancient age. People will discuss their strategies and tactics and you'll be able to read what others did and post what you did and ask why/how they did what they did.

Sometime before the end of the 30 period from when the game started you'll want to submit your game (there's a link on the download page) so it can be included in the results. Don't worry about how you do, lots of losses get submitted.

There is also a Quick Start Challenge (QSC) where you keep a detailed log of your first 80 turns and submit that along with your 1000BC save. You'll be able to compare your start with the other players and learn new techniques to improve your opening plays.

The are 3 levels of play. For a newcomer, you'll probably want the Conquest level. That ususally includes either player bonus or AI handicap (or both) to help you with the early game score. The other two levels, Open (no pluses or minuses for anyone) and Predator (which handicaps the human and helps the AI) are also available.

EDIT: X-Posted with Ginger Ale

If you buy Civ III Complete, you get the Final versions of Vanilla, PTW and C3C!

Why play PTW?..........If you want a quick Conquest Victory on lower levels, use Aztecs and crank out the Jaguar Warriors to win......They cost 10 shields in Vanilla/PTW but 15 in C3C!! :mischief:

So, for HOF purposes, it's still useful to have Vanilla/PTW! ;)
