I'm at work and I can't check this myself, but it's driving me nuts, so...

How many units (if any) can the curragh carry?

If the answer is 0, at what point will I get a ship capable of transport?

I tried looking under the "Units" section of www.civfanatics.com but they had the curragh listed as a Conquests unit and the Conquests section doesn't include number of units the ship holds as a category.

In a regular game the currah cannot carry any units. In some of the Conquest Scenarios it can carry one I beleive.

Mapmaking is the tech needed to build boats (galleys) that can carry units.

also the galley can carry 2 units, not just 1.

In this case, you might say that curragh is the key!

Ah! ah! ah!

rofl Radres, I'm not yet familiar enough with english to pull that kind of pun all over, though I wish I were ^.^

Curragh can carry units in some special cases: In the 'Middle Ages' conquest the curragh is able to carry one single unit, so it´s possible, but rather useless, because to attack one foe from seaside, you need ton of them... A perfect occasion to use the curragh in this conquest is at the very beginning: If you are close to England, go for reliquie in city close to the sea (can´t remember its name) you should be able to get a good headstart!

The only playble civ in Middle Ages that starts close to England and is not Viking (longboats) is France, which doesn't exactly have a very good developement status or enough coastal cities to pump out the 7-10 curraghs you would need for enough troops to take Chippenham. You'd be better off attacking Rome or Berlin.

This is true- I would also recommend taking Rome playing the Germans! But nevertheless, it´s possible to take Chippenham as German at the beginning of the game! My personal strategy is to attack into direction south-east. After crushing the Ungars, Bulgars, etc. you end directly next to Konstantinople-kill the Kings and the whole Byzantine realm crumbles -> the was to Jerusalem is free!

Tip: Do not forget the relique
