Is there a quicker way of regenerating a starting location than exiting to the main menu and starting from scratch?

This is more of an issue in some mods, like FfH2, or in multiplayers games, but it would be helpful to know for single player as well.

You can go to the worldbuilder, go to map mode, I think, and then click something around there to regenerate the map using the same script.

i think if you go to the menu that lets you load/save games, go to the main menu, and such, there is an option to regen the map, but it only works on the first turn

It is typically an option on the 'esc' menu. If it isn't present, then you cannot do it. You typically can not regen all types of multiplayer games.

Yes, it is in the esc menu (where you can find options), BUT it only works on your first turn.

If your regening for the best conditions, then as soon as your map loads open up the WB and look around. If it looks like a bad start exit WB and regen before turn 1. That way your not 10-15 minutes into a game before you realize the map sucks.

oh - multiplayer games. Set up a SP game as you want it to be (size, type of map, leaders, etc) ... regen until you get something you like - open WB, save as WB file - start MP game from that WB file (scenario).
