I was playing against a human player i care not to name on the earth map. I was the Romans and he was the Germans so i knew we started close to each other.

I started out with 2 settlers, so i built a city and sent the other north in hopes of finding Berlin.

On the way i passed a german archer who decieded not to teach my settler a lesson. i guess he wanted to burn Rome to the ground first.

Unfortunatly for him though, i had 2 defensive units at Rome thanks to the Whale i started next to.

So while that archer laid seige to Rome, my second settlers, weilding deadly spades took Berlin. Game over, less than ten turns.

HEY! THAT WAS ME! I'm the Weiming_Sun that you played 3 hours ago! You are Milamber! Yes, Weiming_Sun is Vladmir_illych_lenin. That totally was not fair. You cannot take cities with settlers! Now your bringing back bad memories! Rematch tomorrow.

Maybe you archer should have attacked the settler then??????

Defeating someone with a settler? Boy that is kinda low. But leaving a city un-defended is silly isn't it lenin?

Don't you guys find going for the jugular that early kind of boring? I wouldn't consider such a win very honorable or exciting. Civ conquest is about glory and overcoming obstacles and challenges. That kind of "end the game as fast as possible" mentality is quite the bore if you ask me.

Have you ever thought about your soul and can it be saved?
Or perhaps you think that when you're dead you just stay in your grave.

I went into a hut with my settler and used the archer that came out to do some eartly exploring so I'd have the advantage. Didn't think he'd have enough forces to conquer my cities, or defeat my archer.

Usually Drake i like to play Civ 2 the long way, build up massive cities, fight extended campagins. But in this case the opportunity was there and i could not resist temptation.

I can usually beat a Diety game with 167% in 6 or 7 turns, so

*DING* *DING* *DING*

We have a winner!!!

It's just that easy. Actually in just 4 turns last time with 2 cities and 2 archers

You could also be German. And make sure it's on the small world map. And pick Greeks and French (Germans, or Spanish) if possible.

Winning in just 4 turns is crap! The whole point of civ is that you get drawn into weekend long games and you have huge empires with 50 cities and loads of mech. infs massacreing youre opponents. And anyway I always win by reaching Alpha Centauri, much more fun

No it is no fun or challenge to do this over and over.Just that it can be done and maybe you can pick up a few bucks by wagering with dis-beleivers
wink.gif

Yea!! Sometimes you have got to challenge yourself. A few weeks ago I lost a bet about getting Subs ASAP, I was trying to get them before 1000 BC, but then I had a revolution in 1080 BC, and didn't build my first sub until 980 BC - so I lost the bet, but it was damn close....

On chieftain level I once had conquered the entire world in 2820 BC. It must be said that
I played on a small world and only 2 computer
players but it still was quite fast! Another time I head already over a 100 cities before 1 AD!!!

OK, so we're talking about quickest victories. Here's a very down-and-dirty approach:

Go into Map Editor. Generate a random map. Pick a nice starting location for your civ, and put all the other civs on glacier squares at the poles. Save the map and start a game. As soon as you start, all the AI civs die!!! Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!

So then you're in 4000 BC, with 10,000 population, and if you're in Deity level, you can get 296% approval rating.

It is pretty boring, I admit, but it doesn't get any quicker than that!

Wow and I was all smug with conquering the large world map (slightly modified

) ba little after 1AD, you guys are too fast for me, though I have done the Deity thing on a custom map and gotten 202%.
