Okay, these glasses I can be happy with. :)
Thank goodness for that ;) ...I got Daz conforming glasses.

Two final suggestions:
- A little bit narrower mouth
- A bit darker skin and some added texture. Kekkonen was an old man and had old man's 'grainy' skin texture.
The mouth is now narrower, and skin a bit darker. Not sure how 'grainy' I can get it.

Mouth is good, but the effect with the skin is not at all what I was talking about.
- Way too dark. I really meant just a little bit. ;)
- This isn't the graininess I meant. I meant that the skin shouldn't look so smooth, but that it should have little flecks, graininess. Can you edit the face texture file?

Quick example with the older Kekkonen:

Kekkonen has been updated again; I don't think I can do much more to the texture though.

aswesome, i love the changes :goodjob:

Kekkonen on the left is good. :)

As picture speaks more than thousand words, here are my last suggestions (I don't know whether the glasses you have are this flexible though):

kekkonen-example2.jpg

Changes made to the picture: slightly rounded corners for the glasses, raised middlepiece of the glasses, lowered the glasses in general, resized the picture vertically 103% (his face is a bit too short/round)

I hope you aren't losing your patience with me. :)

When you finish with the leaderheads, will you be posting them in the Graphics forum or only supplying them with your mod?

I think this could be David or Solomon. The picture on the left was going to represent the ancient era, but I think I'll make it Medieval.

Good on the medieval.

Now, I agree with Kal El that the head should be bigger, it just looks... small.

Also, you are going to add more detail to the clothes of the now medieval one, right?

Take it as a post of constructive criticism :D

- A lot of your backgrounds have action in them, like ships or trains. While this is often nice, remember that in Civ3 the backgrounds are usually stationary things like nature or buildings.

- The Byzantine leaderhead is very nice. Especially the new version following Xen's criticism

- Kekkonen I can't say anything because Drift is already given you enough to think about

- Israel, the modern era looks absolutely superb. Only make him not so skinny maybe, and head a little larger... model his proportions and size after the Civ3 leaderheads. Otherwise, very nice look, clothes, and background. I don't know if it's possible to just quickly edit out those little boats floating around. You can be sloppy, nobody would notice. And the background for medieval is a painting right? I think maybe I could find something a little better (imo) but I'm not sure. The hair's nice. Maybe give him some hed props for the ancient and medieval.

- Dinga Cisse is nice, and a very needed leaderhead. However, like Solomon he looks kind of skinny. Based on his head I excpected his arms to be quite a bit up and covering a lot of the bottom half of the picture.

- No complaints for the Delaware civ, he looks excellent. Easily the best so far.

- Sojourner Truth is fantastic! Referring to the lighter one of course... with the really dark one it's hard to make out the facial features. If that's the modern however why not do something like the skyline of Nairobi or something? Also that leapord brings up that whole thing about no living things besides the leaderhead in the background.

- Yacoub Al Mansour is very nice and definetly a leaderhead I wanted, it's great that you're taking it up. The background is nice, only minor complaint is maybe show a bit of the sky or horizon... but it's only a minor fault. The most important thing here is that with Yacoub Al Monsour you have captured the dimensions that civ3 leaderheads should have.

- Malcom II is nice. He could double for another european leaderhead nicely.

- Sea people, lol, nice. You ahve the dimensions right again, and overall it's nice.

When I finish.....looks like there's plenty of constructive criticism around for me to take ages doing these  !!

I thought I'd supply them with the mod to give it more of a chance of being tried out! I wouldn't be uploading them twice, ie once with the mod and once as standalone leaderheads; I also would not wish to fill Thunderfall's new uploads folder unnecessarily.

aaminion00 - thanks for the constructive criticism. I'll look to increase the head size for the Israeli leaderhead; you're right in saying that it's too small. However, it will take a while because once I increase that, the beard and hair will need updating as well - not an easy job. I don't think I'll be adding anything else to the clothes for Medieval - I've limited resources after all.

I'm glad you like some of the other leaderheads, but remember two things -
1. I'm an amateur artist and doing my best - honest!! I'm new to Poser, and am doing this project to push myself to the limits of my capabilities. I'm not going to get everything right though. It's not that I mind constructive criticism; Drift's comments, for example, have improved Kekkonen no end.
2. Again, being new to Poser, the amount of props etc that I have are finite; I've got the best freebies that I could find, but have had to buy some stuff to suit the civs, eg the conforming glasses for Kekkonen.

Please keep the comments coming and I'll do the best I can - as long as they're constructive (like they have been), it'll improve the various leaderheads.

Questions:
1. No-one's commented yet on Helen of Troy. I was wondering whether or not to keep her as a leader for the Trojans or re-work her as leader of another civ. She could make a good European queen. Any ideas/comments?
2. Should Kekkonen have the glasses throughout the ages? I know that in ancient and medieval times it might be too advanced in terms of technology for someone to have glasses, but they're such a trademark of Kekkonen....
Also, with Kekkonen (who has a new preview), is the picture I've posted of him to be the "happy" picture, given that he was, as Drift said, a "gruff" man?
3. Am I to take it that the lighter version of Sojourner Truth is the one to use?
4. I'm thinking of scrapping the Sea People and replacing them with something else. (Don't worry, I'll keep the pirate leaderhead and do a single-era one later for those wanting this.) Should I scrap it? If so, what other leaderhead should I do? Answers on a postcard to..... - I bet this question prompts a few requests!!

Answers:

1. I think maybe because a lot of people aren't very excited about a Trojan civ, too many Hellenic civs already ya know?

2. Ask drift :D

3. Definetly!

4. Hmm, you've already done most of the civs anyone could ask for. I'd say if you wanted to do anymore unique civilizations, the Malay, and Sioux are only ones to really come to mind. Maybe Bosnia too though... wishfull thinking.

Oh, and I was once an "amateur" poser artist too, but I couldn't do crap. You're already very good at it.

Okay, this last draft of Kekkonen is really good. Just a few little bits of criticism left:
- Glasses are pushed unnaturally high on his nose. Can you bring them a bit lower?
- Lights need probably adjusting before you start animating - his face is too evenly lit. For example, the old Kekkonen has a good set of lights.

In all other respects, lookin' really good. :)

Edit: I noticed the other bits about Kekkonen just now. Quick replies:
- Glasses throughout ages. I don't know. I guess it might look too comical. Maybe if you had a pair of ancient looking glasses, these current ones are IMO too modern for ancient and medieval, trademark or not. It's your call though. :)
- He doesn't have to be quite that gruff when he's happy. He had a commanding personality and a very masculine image and that's why I didn't like the sweet smile. I would give him a laughing grin, imagine how he might have laughed after telling a dirty joke to some Russian leader while having negotiations in a sauna with him. That's what I would've done with my Kekkonen if I hadn't been restricted to PSP-editing.

I'm leaving the choice of the final leaderhead to the members of the forum. If you look at the previews, you'll see that the last post shows the pirate, the generic asian lady and Robert Menzies. Which one do you want me to do for the mod? Please note also that these are first drafts, so although I'll take constructive criticism later, I'm not taking time on the leaderhead until it's decided which one I'll use.

Oh, and if I'm allowed a vote, I think an Aussie leaderhead is really needed :) .

I like them all and I can't decide whcih is best to make. :hmm: That's no help, I'll go into lurk mode then.

Now Kekkonen has that dent in his forehead again. I'm sorry, but it has to go. Also, his cheekbones feel a bit too pronounced and his jaw could be a touch wider with cheeks hanging slightly more. Don't change it too much though. It's very, very close. :)

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about with the cheeks and jaw. Very small stuff. Original on the left.

Of course I forgot the pic:

I simply love these leaderheads. Is it too much to ask again for them to be available as soon as they're finished? Please =(

Thanks for the kind feedback!! Yes, when they're finished, they'll all be available together.

A new preview of Kekkonen is uploaded - hopefully, it'll be ok this time :p . There's also two new previews of Sojourner Truth - a modern preview with the Nairobi skyline, as suggested by aaminion00 and a new ancient preview :) .

It is. One final (how many times have I said that? ) suggestion: match the skin color to the original Kekkonen. In all other respects, it's great. :goodjob:

Phew, glad to get Kekkonen up to Drift's standards - well almost! Although I managed, by and large, to get rid of the forehead bump by morphing, I used lighting/skin tone change to make it finally disappear. I'm a little worried that if I mess about with it again, the bump will reappear. Still, I'll see what I can do :) .

Sojourner Truth is fast becoming my favourite leaderhead out of these - but I'm concerned about getting the right clothing for the Medieval and Industrial eras; my African clothing "wardrobe" is a little bare at the moment :( .

I was wondering whether or not Helen of Troy could be revamped (with different backgrounds and clothing) to one of the Scandinavian countries? If that is the case, who could she be?

I'm thinking that Menzies should be the leaderhead I do out of the three choices I posted; but there's still a chance to change my mind!!
