Hey folks.

I love this game. I hate how my system stutters towards the end of the game. I've bought myself another GB of RAM (which will take my total up to 2 GB). The RAM should arrive either tomorrow or on Monday. I have a feeling this will somewhat fix the late-game stuttering I'm experiencing.

I'm currently playing using integrated graphics (GeForce 6150). I realize that this isn't optimal, especially when trying to push the 1600 x 1050 resolution on my 22 inch widescreen monitor. I've been thinking for a while now that I'll purchase a PCIe graphics card - not just for playing Civ IV but for general improvement in computing enjoyment.

At the moment I'm weighing up a Radeon 1950 Pro 256 and a GeForce 7900 GS 256. Which is the better choice? The Radeon costs about $60 more than the GeForce. Money is an issue to an extent, however, if the Radeon is streets ahead in terms of performance I'd probably buy it over the GeForce. Civ IV is the ONLY game that I play and I don't need a DirectX 10 capable card as I have no intention of 'upgrading' to Vista anytime soon.

Any thoughts?

Cheers.

That's a weird choice since you said you don't need a DX10 card and 8600GT is slower than both of those

Yeah, I know. But this turned out being quite a bit cheaper than both of the cards I originally mentioned. The 8600 GT I bought is also factory overclocked to 600/1600 (the standard is 540/1190) so it's got a fair bit more beef than regular 8600 GT cards. :goodjob:

Anyway, the point is, the card has revolutionized my Civ IV experience so I'm happy.
