Rallying call for all interested: Colonisation of the Moon mod!

I tried. I really tried.
I am not blaming you. Did you try yousendit?

Did you make any changes to v0.51(the version I sent you last night)? If so you can send the changed files to me and I will send them to everyone else

Ok, your write up on the Independents is not in line with mine. I see them as being focused on self-reliance and adaptation to the Moon. They would seem to be the ones who would make fortified biodomes, and they would have a focus on pragmatic effectiveness, sort of a mean between cost and effeciency.

For Scientific, they would build pretty biodomes that would get them good press and increased funding back on Earth (while that phase still existing). Having higher tech is a huge (the huge) advantage. I think their buildings should have the worst cost to effect ratio, and in general not be as effective as either of the other two factions (but remember they will constantly be in the tech lead, so they will simply have access to more options).

The Commercial factions would be the builders of bunkers, IMO, since they have less concerns about visibility and employee happiness (the decisionmakers don't live there, etc.), and much more of a focus on liability, durability and maintenance issues. I would expect their buildings to be of the "made by the lowest bidder" variety, with a high cost to efficiency ratio, but generally the least effective overall. I agree that they should be the best suited to managing larger "empires" which in turn can allow them to generate substantial research budgets.

Here is what my line of thaough was:
My thoughts were that the biodomes of the commercial factions were for effective food production and not really happiness. They would not build bunkers as they would be very expesive with no profit resulting from them. they are not to concerned about defences as they hope to maintain peace with those around them.

For scientific their fortified biodomes would serve for food production, happiness, and defence.(though not as much defence as bunkers and not as much food production as biodomes).

The costs of buildings and units would be fairly significantly increased to offset the large tech advantage they have.(They will have fewer buildings and units but there buildings and units would be more effective do to superior technology)

Note that what I outlined is subject to change and if your thoughts agree with popular opinion I will change mine accordingly;)

Matt - did the Wonders work for you? Or like me, do you not find the time to play this awesome Mod?

About the Super Civics. I'll let JBG (or even dsquared if he shows up again) cast the deciding vote. I can see where both of you are coming from and agree with both of you. Any chance for a 3rd building in the Biodome, Bunker mold that could break the tie of using 2 different Biodomes?

I'm afraid I haven't had the time to play since my day of on Wednesday. I doubt I will have the time to play today either

any suggestions?

I'm thinking that if I went to the moon I'd try underground first. I know nothing about Lunar Geology to know if this is possible, but it would have a lot of positives if possible. Maybe one Civic (the Indepedents maybe) could focus on that avenue since they're there to mine and strip the moon of it's resources. They would seem likely to have the ability to build down and not worry about Domes or defensive bunkers. Just an idea, but having a 3rd might solve some issues.

I was thinking we could model all Independent civs as underground civilizations (with large underground bunkers) while the other two remain mostly above ground.

That works for me. So when they build their mega-improvement it should mask the default city graphics somehow. Of course they'll need some things on the surface, but not much.

Yes, that should be easy enough to do. They will aslo be able to build underground passages while the other two build glass walkways instead.

Problem solved!

Any idea on a name for the mega-building?

What's the name in English for the dwellings of beavers? Those life comfortable in it as well.

As on the bunker citygraphics, why not just showing some solar panels, antennae, comm dishes on top of low structures on the surface around a landing pad or something? And all that enclosed by a chain of mini lunar forts?

In effect, you could use that graphic (without the bunkers around it) as the basic city graphic in the early stages. Something like this:

That look perfect. With that picture I sould be able to make a perfect bunker graphic. Thanks so much for finding such a good picture.(where did you get it? it looks like its from a game)

Don't beavers live in Dens? Or maybe a Hut? Maybe something like Catacomb or Labrynth would work?

That is an awesome pic Geo.

The pic is from a screenshot of the intro movie of the Nexus game again. We (me and JBG) did tell you already the graphics in it are awsome, didn't we?

Checking the rest of the available vid material, I can provide shots of a spaceship docked on a base around the moon (and departing), the eagle landing on the moon, some more shots of ingame ships and a few bases.

If you like the graphics of that moonbase, there's a mesh ingame with sortlike structures on a planetoid. Lemme see what I can do...

hmm.. maybe I wil go and pick up a copy of Nexus. I'm sure well could you alot of the art from that game judging by the pictures you posted. You can keep the pictures coming in the meantime.

Well, the last month or two quite a new number of players were asking questions , so I gather there must be still some copies outthere. Game is 1,5 years old now, so the price probably has dropped.

Here's some more vidshots. the sat pics could be usefull for buttons. The fighter... well, someone wanted spacefighters for the mod... ;)
