Random event disasters please with animation.

Well I know there are numerous opinions out there, so with that being said why not implement them in, with the option of turning them on or off, and that way both sides come out happy. My biggest thing was that when some of you really talented modders out there put these different random disasters in your mod please make them with animation and really cool graphics so that when those of us who want to use them in our game get wiped out with a mega earthquake, we can at least be some what entertained at the cool visuals as we watch our civilization fall apart.;)

Disasters wouldn't have to be completely random and uncontrollable.

For instance, the more you cut down jungles, the higher possibility that disease will spread to nearby cities. And cities can avoid disease with certain technology & improvements.

Or, places that floods happen would be easily recognizable, like it was in New Orleans, but there are benefits of building on terrain that is easily flooded -- after all, New Orleans was built at that site to be a port into the Mississippi river. In the game, it would be the player's choice to take the risk, and over time try to develop levees to reduce the risk.

I think you'll find something similar everywhere that there are natural disasters. The Los Angeles area is prone to fires because its dry in the summer, but there's was lot of arable land that could be used with irrigation. Places with volcanoes nearby are likely to have a lot of minerals. etc, etc.

I'm not sure how places with earthquakes would be recognizable, but all of these disasters would be things that would happen every so often in different degrees - every x number of turns -- and wouldn't be completely random.

I like the random events in Civ IV and the various different quests and missions, definitely added to the game. I hope they keep this and expand on it in Civ V.

However, I never did like that Barbarian rush that sometimes happened near the start of the game. Ive had to reload or restart a couple of times because of that. I got paranoid about building the Great Wall on every game as a result! Ive seen that same barbarian rush kill 3 AI opponents in fairly quick succession in one particular game - well I read about them and assumed it must have been the cause anyway. That game turned out well! ;)

This would be awesome! But most people would try to reload and not try and face the problem. I, personally, would like to see plagues in game. Not a major one, where whole civilizations are killed, but one where everyone slowly recieves a population hit. And natural disasters were in Civ 4, but they only happened to a certain city. I would like to see a tsunami hit a coast and that coast has like 2-3 civs on it so that its not a singular thing.

But I really hope they bring some of this stuff into Civ 5, or an expansion :)

I love the random events. I like bad ones and I like the good one's I hope they expand and add animations as well.

Not sure why anyone wouldn't like them but if you don't like them just shut them off... no need to complain about them.

@D712 you must have had raging barbarians turned on.

I love the idea of tying them into your civ and the terrain. I also love the idea of Global events like recessions etc.

PS: I also like the idea of being able to reload if the event busts the game! =^)

I like the idea of disasters, if I have some control over it and gain something from reacting in the right way. Take volcanos for example. First, if I know there's the possibility of such a disaster, I'll just avoid mountains. A few turns after a volcano erupts, the soil in the area becomes extra fertile.

Another example is the plague. If I maintain high health levels, the impact on me should be minimal. Plagues should also start from civs with bad health levels. Perhaps I can even find a cure for the plague, giving me a diplomatic relations and science boost. Perhaps even a cultural boost because I saved so many civs' butts.
