Random Map option

I enjoy using the "Random Map" option in the set-up menu, but it always seems like I get either Archipelago, Continents, or Pangea. I don't think I've ever seen a map like Highlands, Amazon, or Bering Strait come up randomly. I wish there was a way to select which maps you want to have chosen randomly (maybe you hate Large Continents, but like everything else).

My thought was maybe when you select Random Maps, you get a drop-down menu with checkboxes next to the different maps (with a "check all" option as well). And maybe the game could remember your setting from game to game so you wouldn't have to keep checking off the ones you want every time you started a new game.

Hmmmm, i don't think that the "random map" script actually picks randomly one of the other existing scripts.
At least, it's how it worked in civ 4.
"Random map" includes the code used for default generations (a copy-paste from the continents, archipelago and pangaea). So it's not a reference to another script, the actual script is inside "random map".
Thus, it's not easy to do what you say. You should repeat the copy-paste thing for each of the other scripts you want to be included.

Someone tells me if I'm wrong.

Totally agree. I would love if you could just set among which maps it should choose from. I sure don't understand why they didn't just make it like that in the first place anyway.

Even better, if you could for example set it like this:

Size: From small to large
Type, Continents, continents plus or pangea plus
Resources: normal, strategic balance or scarce
Sea level: low
Temperature: standard or hot
Humidity: Wet, normal or arid

If I remember correctly (I'm at work at the moment), when you hover the mouse over the Random Map option it says something like "Picks from a random map (not earth)." I'll check it out when I get home in an hour.

It says "The game will randomly pick one of the map types for you to play (not Earth). You will not be told what was picked."

The checkbox idea sounds a decent one. The game setup could really do with some love to make it more user-friendly (and this is from Civ4, as well). Checkboxes replaced dropdowns in a lot of cases could help.

I have been playing a lot of large random maps lately, and i have never got continents+ or pangea+ but seen lakes + the 3 you mentioned.
Sadly I have not found highland sandstorm or any of the other randomly generated maps.
I really wold like to see all those inkluded in the available list, but not the named ones like great plaines or mediterranian.
For lakes map, lake size shold also be random, 4-corners randon sea or mountain devide, highland also mave random mountain option i think.
