Normally i dont have any issues playing Civ4 Beyond the Sword on my windows 7 64bit computer with quadcore 3.0ghz proc and geforce gtx 560 video card 8gb memory.

However, today when i opened the game (and its only Beyond the Sword) it gave me an error saying my video card requirements are under recommendations. I got this when i first installed and im used to it since its an older game (yes, my drivers are up to date). Normally i just set the game settings to max anyway, but this time when i clicked Options nothing happened. Every other button works, but i cannot access the Options menu.
Also when i try to play despite the really, really low graphics my entire HUD is missing in-game, and the options button there does the same (i.e. nothing at all).

I have done a full purge of my computer for any Civ content (not just beyond the sword) and reinstalled, still cannot get rid of this issue. Civ4, Warlords, and Colonization works fine though.

The only mod i had installed was the Bug mod, and it was working fine.

Sincerely doubt anyone has any info on how to fix this but i figured i'd ask because i am out of ideas short of purging my entire computer....and...screw that lol

You get the error message because your computer and graphics card are not on the game's internal list of those that work. In your case that is because the list was compiled before your equipment was made and the message is irrelevant. However, when the message is displayed it also sets several default values to minimums. You can deactivate the check by opening the ini. file in your notepad or other text processor and search for these lines:

; Don't show minimum specification warnings
HideMinSpecWarning = 0

Change the "0" to "1". That will stop the check for minimum specs, which will eliminate the message and might solve the problem with your options. I never had the option problem but always got the minimum spec message and stopped it in this manner. It is worth trying. BTW, you can make the same change in the ini. file for vanilla and Warlords to stop the message there as well.

Weird....this is one of those things that make me think i dont know even remotely as much about computers i claim i do.

This is literally what fixed my problem. I deleted the .ini file, nothing else, and just played again. Why it did it for just that and not when i purged EVERYTHING including the .ini file i have no flippin idea.

Either way, crisis averted time for some civ4. Thanks for the help.
