Why are you people uploading files an rar file format. Their is only a margional difference between this compression program, an the standard Windows file compression format. Their is already to many programs on user machines taking up disk space an increasing the complexity of the Windows registry.
One other problem with having a additional decompressional program on your machine is that you will have to buy it, or risk picking up more than just a freeware program. I am hinting of spyware or adware bundled in the free program.

You may try the programm 7-zip first, before you are naging about certain standards. You can load it from here. If you use 7-zip, you should be free from all your sorrows as it supports zip, rar and 7z (which avain uses for his mods for example). Rar is quite widespread (most archives I load are rars, not only those from civfanatics), you should really learn to handle it as it is more difficult if everybody would stop using it only because of you than if only you would start using it.

BTW: This is the wrong place for question at all and I also can't see what new civs have to do with file formats. Since a while everybody starts posting in wrong places. Maybe it is unclear to new users, so thunderfall (or anyone else who is capable) should think about reorganize the forum a bit (well, that may need a lot of work for which those people haven't sufficient time due to their real life) or at least make it more obvious that this is the wrong place for questions...
